They were really chocolatey which I loved. I made the same subs as you but instead of using all 1/4C applesce, I made 1T of it canola oil and it worked great.

Glad you liked them! I've tried them with some chopped dried cherries (got the idea from Heather's chocolate cherry cake in The First Year) and they were really good that way too.
