My mom has a recipe for an Apple cake that is super moist mostly because of the 2 cups of oil in it. It is one of my favorites next to chocolate. I am new to the diet and figuring substitutions. Would applesauce be an appropriate sub with maybe retaining 1/4 cup of the oil? It makes a 9X13 pan size. I have looked at several recipes and you guys are good. If anyone can help, you guys can. Thanks.

Welcome! Yes, that sounds just right. Since you're baking it in a 9x13-inch pan, you could even keep up to 1/3 cup of oil and use unsweetened applesauce for the rest. Also, if the recipe calls for any eggs don't forget to use egg whites or Egg Beaters instead. So... are you planning on sharing this wonderful recipe?

I'll try it and see if the sub works and if it does, most certainly. I have had people tell me that it's the only apple cake they'll eat. I hope this works. Thanks.
