I can't live without mine. The only thing I wish I could change is that the parts are not dishwasher safe. Other than that, it's great. I always have rice in the fridge. I particularly like the fact that I can just throw the rice, water, and seasonings / veggies in, switch it to cook, and take a shower, do homework, whatever, and I don't have to worry that it will burn. I have also used the steamer tray accessory to steam vegetables, and to do the Wok-Steamed Salmon recipe. My mom told me I was silly and that rice isn't hard to make in a pot, but I do like it, and I especially notice a difference in asian rice, like sushi rice. Mine was a Christmas present from Santa, but I'm sure it was only about 15 bucks or so. It's small, but I'm small and I live alone. My bf has a huge one, and also lives alone, and I think that was a mistake because he ends up with leftover rice for several weeks. I'd look on Amazon for a cheap one. Mine only has one setting, but I have a rice-cooker cook book that calls for different settings, so depending on how ambitious you are going to be, you have a lot of options. good luck. Panda

Hi there, picked up one recently & I like it. I took a liking to Jasmine rice not too long ago, so that's what I've been using it for so far. It's very easy, just throw the stuff in and it does the rest... doesn't require you to hover over it, as with cooking on the stovetop.

take it one day at a time.

I own a big one as well.. which isn't the best for someone living along but it works.. Ijust make tiny batches. Anyways.. it makes yummy rice everytime and just like chinese food rice. No sticky, smushy saucepan rice in sight. The only downfall is that its a pain in the butt to clean..

I have a vegetable steamer which has accessories to use it as a rice cooker. Just love it and everything is dishwasher safe except the base which hold the water. This might be an option. They are on sale around the holidays for under $20.00 and is major department stores or Wallmart etc. Hope this helps.
