KinOz - it's a "crock" that fits into a metal holder and it's electric. The heat is distributed pretty evenly and slowly. Just put it on the counter and plug it in, put in the food (usually veggies on bottom and meats on top because veggies take longer than meat to cook in a crockpot). Everything comes out extremely well done and juicy. Rival makes a good one. It pays to buy a good brand because I bought a cheapie quite a few years ago, and it didn't work worth a darn. Go to one of the discount stores for a better deal or wait for a good sale. There are also "crockery" or "slow cooker" cookbooks you can buy. Best place to try is a large bookstore.

Thanks Sharon,
and thanks also for the great recipes, it's nice to try new ones for a change. I'm just having trouble tracking down the seedless raspberry jam.

you probably can use blackberry or any other berry jam as long as it's seedless. Take your pick. Smuckers usually makes them. Good Luck.
