Sinead - did you ever try freezing smoothies? I want to give it a try - I'd like to be able to mix up a batch every couple of nights and take them out of the freezer in the morning to bring to work with me. Just wondering if you had any luck with freezing them or if you have any suggestions before I just jump in

I used to freeze mine -- they were strawberries/banana/rice milk. They were a little "icy" when they thawed, but otherwise they were fine.
When I was younger we didn't have an Orange Julius in the town where we lived, so when we made a trip to a town 45 miles away, we'd always bring a few extra Orange Juliuses home and freeze them. They were fine, but again, seemed a bit icy.

I used to LOVE Orange Julius!!!!!
I'm going to get some fruit this weekend for smoothies and try freezing them to see how it goes. Two things I have to figure out are - what should I freeze them in? I think I need to find a few sport bottles with a straw....and also, how long will they take to thaw out? If I take out of freezer at 7am, will they be thawed enough to drink before lunch...say at like 10ish...

You can freeze them, but if they have banana in them they turn kind of a dark color, if you don't mind looking at it they're fine though. Fresh are much better of course!

Ooh, it's been a long time since I've thawed them ... but I think that at room temperature, they thawed within an hour, if not sooner. If you move from the freezer to the fridge, not sure how long it'd take. Experimenting at home would definitely be a good idea. I drank mine at home, so I just froze mine in plastic glasses. You can always freeze them in ice-cube trays.
