Hey Becky,

That was neat with the pics so you can see exactly how to do them. I like the single knee to chest which I use sometimes to relieve my back pain. Sometimes I do both knees at the same time and that position helps, too.

But......the Sphinx position....Oh No .....forget it. I would never get up off the floor. teehee

Wonder which ones Bev will choose?

Is that I do some of those stretches without even knowing it! The first one on the hip-stretches page, I sit like that all the time. I'm sitting like that now, actually. And sphinx? All the time. I always used to have lower-back aches... no wonder they stopped happening so frequently. And cow-cat I do often, it feels soooo good.

Ok, I'm done endorsing.

Bev, I hope some of those help!

THANK YOU! These are incredible. Actually, I recall quite a few of them from physical therapy that I had when I was rowing competitively (and throwing my back out a LOT).

I'm doing much better. Some of the exercises are impossible for me to do, but some of them seem very relieving. I also took some Ibuprofen, which has helped immeasurably.

Thanks again, Becky! You're fabulous!

Having a little trouble with the last one in your post. I lie flat on the floor with my rear up against the wall? My rear is on the floor, so how do I put it against the wall? A little confused there....?

Afraid to try Bound Angle Pose, but I'm gonna try, I will, I will, I promise.

Oy.

Thanks again,

but when you're lying up against the wall and your feet are in a vertical position, against the wall, you can have your butt up against the wall too. Does that help? Sorry, it's hard to describe some of these. I wish I had a picture for this one.

Another thing you can do is buy a Ball that is used for excercise. Sit on it instead of a chair. The whole idea using a ball is it forces you to sit up straight. You can not slouch or cross your legs.

This is advice I got from a Fitness Trainer. If you decide to try a ball - read the outside of the box. You want to buy a ball that is in your height range. It is a great chair to have when you sit at the computer alot.

BTW I don't have any back problems, but I want to avoid it due to a job that is known to cause back pain.

I see gals lying on those balls all the time at the gym when I'm pulling my guts out on the rowing machine. If I sprawled across one of those things on my back, I'd never be able to get back up again! But you say you SIT on them? What keeps you from falling off? And how does it support your back?

I'm feeling MUCH better today (thankfully!). I was able to get out of bed all by myself this morning! Yaay me! And when I spilled Soyfee grounds on the floor, I was able to hold onto the counter with one hand and wipe up the grounds with the other. Yaay again!

Thanks for the suggestion; I'll have to check those balls out.

No, Sis, not today. Maybe later.

Yes, thank you, my back is a lot better. I even helped hubby lift the new porch rockers into the car. I know, I know, don't overdo it -- I won't, I promise.

No problems with the Ibuprofen -- yet. LS tells me there's a delayed reaction with it, so I need to be cautious. However, I think I'd prefer a sore tummy to a sore back at this point. I'm just so tired of the constant aching. I have no pain tolerance. (However, I do have a surprising bout of D this morning for no reason .... ?)

How's the green foot? And your back?

BTW, since you like ferns so much, you'd love it up here. They grow wild. And in full sun, too! Before we broke ground on The Farm, it was a fern grotto amidst a forest of cedars and firs. I hated killing those ferns and cutting down so many of those gorgeous trees, but at least we were limited by the local government as to how many we could cut. AND, since we finished building, we had it landscaped -- with all replacement ferns. I'll post a pic as soon as I get the roll developed.

You posted a pic of your front yard, but how 'bout one of the back? Do you have full size trees? Since we have so many trees, I'm thinking about getting a hammock. Whatchathimk?

Hubby saw a greenhouse he wants to get me. Plants in pots die up here in the winter time because of all the freezing cold weather; last winter I lost 7. So the hammock will have to wait 'till after the greenhouse purchase.

Later --
Bev

Sis, who's the gardener? She sure knows what she's doing!

I LOVE the birdbath and the hanging ferns. As for that ivy, yeah it's pretty, BUT it's gonna get outta control, Sis, and root itself into the wood and rot it out. I love ivy and planted it in our backyard in California -- wow, was I sorry! It totalled our wooden fence and rooted into the house siding. Oy! What a mess! Expensive too....

What is the beautiful plant you have just to the right of the ivy? And, wow, you have a HUGE yard! (Please tell me you don't have fire ants. When we were in the National Rowing Championships in Austin, we couldn't sit on the lawn at Towne Lake because of the damn fire ants! Ew.)

And, Girlfriend, I LOVE your beautiful magnolia tree. How magnificent! We don't have them up here; they like hot weather and we don't got none of that.

Thanks so much for sharing, Sis. I wish I could sit with you under that beautiful magnolia in Adirondac chairs, sipping mint julips (okay, I'll take a Jack instead)....

Beautiful yard, beautiful house. You done gooooood!

Wouldn't that be fun.....sitting under the magnolia tree, sipping a Jack and talking and talking and talking. I think we probably would be nonstop chatter. Only one thing.....it would have to be in the winter because you would never make it in this horrible heat... We are having a heat advisory today (100 degrees and humid) and an ozone watch. UGH!! I am staying close to the AC.

We have had that magnolia tree for many years and have enjoyed the beautiful large white blossoms so much. It has been a real joy. And, the birds are so much fun to watch in the bird bath.

Thanks for the tip about the clinging ivy. I have had to cut it back some and ...darn those vines are stuck like glue to the wood....had to muster up all my strength to pry them off and then the paint came off, too. I will tell hubby and see what he thinks we should do.

No, we don't have fire ants. Sometimes a little ant pile pops up but they are not fire ants....thank goodness.

Thanks for the compliments....Keeping a nice yard is a lot of work but the exercise is good for me. BTW, hubby does help some.

Hey Sis,

Do you like bougainvillea? It's an incredible climber and thrives in hot weather. It's absolutely GORGEOUS, with bright red blossoms, and would look fabulous framing your back porch. Only problem is its sharp thorns.

I'll take a rain-check for that Jack under your magnolia, thank you very much. 100 degrees with humidity? I'd die. Right now, I'm sitting here with the doors and windows open; it's 69 in the shade with a slight breeze -- perfect!

Stay cool.

I can't get away with nothin'!

Yeah, it's true. We had a hot spell. VERY unusual for us -- EXTREMELY so. That's why we carry on so much when it happens. 80 degrees, and we just fall apart. But thankfully it didn't last -- it never does -- and now we're back to 69. Whew.

Boy, I can sure see I gotta be careful about what I say here!

If you buy the right size ball you can maintian your balance on the ball. It supports your back because you can not slouch at all. It forces you to sit up straight. If you slouch you fall off the ball. I've tried it myself and love it.

Before I started my job we had a PT come in and talk to us about how not to injury our backs. He also discussed the right sitting position at the computer. I'll have my husband help me later scan the info. and I'll post it.

Glad to hear your back is feeling better.
