Question- maybe any NYC gals can help?

I am so excited! My BF suprised me with tickets to see a musical on Broadway- the Billy Joel one ... I really wanted to see it, but this is horrible, I don't remember what it is called (Movin' Out, maybe?  )
Well, problem is, I NEVER get out to go anywhere special- how do I dress? Is it just casual, or do I wear a skirt and blouse? It may be nice to dress up anyways, since like I said, I NEVER EVER go anywhere nice.
I also have no nice clothes for the same reason, so it looks like there might be a trip to the mall in the works tomorrow... yuck, I hate spending money on myself. I have always been a money saver, but it seems like there is one thing after another to pay for anymore. I guess it is part of growing up.
I am sure one day when I have kids I will give up all hope and just get a credit card and conform to a life of debt. 
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Oh, and I don't know if the theater itself matters dress-code wise, I don't remember the name of it- been under so much stress lately!

It is called Moving Out, I have the soundtrack and a friend of mine went to see it last year. She loved it. I don't think she was dressed up, she was in jeans and quasi-nice shirt, I think (it was a group of us up in NYC together). I personally dress up whenever I go to the theatre, but that's a personal thing since I do theatre in my spare time. But don't worry about it, just have fun! Enjoy the show!

I'm sure some people will be really dressed up, some will be in jeans....
If I were going I'd probably wear a comfortable skirt and shirt.

Trying to calm down though, although I haven't had any 'D' attacks, I am kinda shifting towards that way, I think. Hard to explain, but I am sure that you know what I mean.
I think I may stop by the mall on my way home and try to find a casual skirt.

Here is some information about London theater. I found this on a travel website but can't remember which one.

If it's Broadway, my grandparents always told me that it depends on what seats you got. If you got the really expensive front seats, people are probably going to expect you to dress fairly elegant, but in the middle and back is a skirt/jeans type of thing. Does that help any? I think your idea of a casual skirt is an awesome idea!!  Just enjoy the show, Sheri!

Hey although I am not a gal, I'm an NYC guy. You can dress casual. I have been to the Met which I thought should be really stuffy. I went to see an Opera and there were people in jeans and tee shirts. I think you iwll be fine if you dress somewhere in between.

It's nice to get some help for the stupid details like what to wear, so that i can concentrate on enjoying the experience rather than being nervous about every detail!
