Hi Everyone,

I am going to be filling in for my friend where she works next week for three days while she takes some time off. I haven't worked for over a year and I am getting a rumbly stomach just thinking about it. It will mainly be secretary/receptionist work. How hard could it be? I used to be an Administrative Asst. for goodness sake. I just freak out at any changes in my life. Just being weird again. I wish I could be more like my husband....he considers anything new an adventure...I consider it scary! I have already made sure I have plenty of Immodium & Phazyme in my purse.

Anyway I will probably use the extra money to start buying grandbaby clothes. I have already been cruising the baby stores and "OH BOY" am I itching to BUY!

Just wanted to vent a little. Thanks for listening.

Hi Barbie,

You'll do great filling in. You are so friendly to everyone you won't have any problems at all. You care about people and that will show through when you answer the phones and have to greet people.

It's just because you've been out of work for awhile. I would be nervous too but I KNOW you won't have any problems.

Have been having sooooooo many computer problems so haven't been able to post too often on here. The computer freezes up and shuts me down, but I'm stubborn and keep trying until I decide to get this stupid computer fixed!! LOL
Good Luck Barbie!!!

Hey, Granny!

You're gonna have such a good time, you'll wanna steal that job away from her!

My last job was as a receptionist/secretary/file clerk/word processor/court runner, so I'm here to tell ya that if this old broad could do it, YOU can too!

What kind of an office is it? Real estate? Attorneys? Construction? What? Reception work is fun because you're in the front office where all the action is and you get to play with the UPS guy. It's fun. At my last office everyone used to come up and play with me; they said it was so much more lively there than "in the back." (Although the attorneys kinda frowned on it.)

Reception work, eh? It's really easy if you know how to answer a phone. You just pick it up and say, "Dewey, Cheatem & Howe! May I help you?"

And you already know how to type -- and you're good at it too! Eh, this is gonna be a piece of cake. Listen, you're gonna be busy learnin' the ropes, you won't have a chance to concentrate on your tummy. But don't forget the Equalactin anyway!

Sis

P.S.: Here's a hint that is GUARANTEED to win them over: always make sure there's a fresh pot of coffee -- and it wouldn't hurt to stop at the bakery on the way to work every day. Everyone's a sucker for donuts or cookies! Trust me.

barbie,

I know that feeling well. I hate any new changes. It is only 3 days and think of the cute baby clothes you can buy and how much fun it will be to go shopping.

Good Luck!

Barbie, you're totally normal and your husband is just a guy! You know what I mean!! But for us normal folks, any change, even change for the better or good kinds of change, is SCARY!!

A high priced consultant on change management once told me that the only person who TRULY likes change is a wet baby!! Think about it!! (The consultant was a she, obviously!!)

I hear what you are saying. I have had several jobs in the past 2 years due to layoffs so I know, trust me! Day one is always a little uneasy not knowing what to expect, but after that..it is a breeze! I bet after week one you will be very glad that you are filling in and already planning what to buy your grandbaby! Good luck! By the way, I do receptionist/admin./loan processor type of work. Just smile and your sweetness is heard from your voice! You can do this!
