I understand PMS can worse with age, but my emotions can get out of control. I'm very edgy and no patience to speak of.

I have my six month follow up appt. tomorrow with my doctor and I'm curious to know if any of you take meds. for your PMS.

Hi, Barbara!

I take lots of meds that probably help my PMS as a side benefit like Effexor and Xanax. But none specifically for PMS. I do take two supplements that seem to help, Vitamin B6, two 50 mg capsules a day all month, and AquaBan, which is a diuretic called Pamabron, four 50 mg tablets a day, just during the week before my period is due.

However, there are definitely meds now that are prescribed just for PMS, or PMMD I think it's called, so it's definitely worth asking your doc.

Ther are some natural ways to having less PMS symptoms. Yoga is supposed to help, as well as herbs like chamomile and peppermint. Also, the combination of calcium & magnesium is supposed control the "mental" aspect of PMS. Good luck!

I lost an ovary 5 years ago due to surgery and i swear my PMS is way worse now than ever before!! I was on Sarafem,i loved it,it worked great but was too expensive for me to keep up with(it was around $100 for a 30 day supply)i only needed to take it for 10 days before my period. I am now on a drug called Fluoxetine for a week prior to my period.Only i keep forgetting to take it, when i do take it helps, but not as great as the Sarafem did! Ask your dr. for free samples of Sarafem and give it a try.

I'm not on anything for the PMS yet, but I also have a friend who's using Sarafem and swears by it. Definitely might be worth looking into!

Yeah, Sarafem was the name I was trying to remember. I've read good things about it.

My doctor can not give me anymore medicine to help with PMS, because I already take Paxil everyday. He said that should help - geez I hate see what I be like without Paxil.

The plan is to increase my dosage from 30mg to 45mg one week before my peroid starts. I'm to follow up with my doctor by phone. I won't know for another month if it wil work.
