I think the honors go to "The Princess Bride". No matter how many times I watch it, it's still just as fun as the first time I ever saw it.
My nostalgic favorite is "Breakfast Club". I can recite the entire movie, hehe. Yeah, I date myself as an '80s kid there.
And not really a "favorite", but I tend to like anything with Fred Astaire in it. Looooove the old movies.

Planes, Trains, and Automobiles is a must-see!! It has Steve Martin and John Candy starring in it, and they play these two men who end up going on a road trip together even though they've never even met before. And it's truly hilarious!
I love the movie I Am Sam!!! I almost started bawling because I felt so bad for them! And Tommy Boy rocks, too!
As for my Top 3:
1) Sixteen Candles 2) Pleasantville (yeah, yeah. Groan!) 3) Billy Madison

I love movies but can never remember what I just saw. I did rent Mystic River this week and enjoyed it but it stayed with me for a couple days. You know how they do that sometimes.
All time favorites...
1. GI Jane 2. The Big Chill 3. Field of Dreams
I also love the Harry Potter movies, the chick flicks (my daughter and I watch them over and over), and anything with Tom Hanks in it is a winner.
Good post Bevrs!

My favorite newer movie is Pirates of the Caribbean... I could stare at that pirate all day.

Cara, I'm with you on this guy. For a long time, every time I saw him on TV, he just disgusted me, and I couldn't figure out why. He just looked really UGLY to me -- and then, just the other day, a light bulb went on! I now know why I find him so repulsive:
Do you remember the episode on "Friends" when he dated Rachel? He had a mean side to him in which he became enraged for no reason whatsoever, but no one saw it except Rachel. He played that role so convincingly that I still see that maniac every time I see his ugly face.
I guess that's what you'd call a good actor -- but I have a hard time separating the actor from the freak.
It's like Ed Herman. He was so great as Glenn Miller that every time I think of Glenn Miller I picture Ed Herman, and whenever I hear Herman on the cable history channel emceeing antique car programs, I keep thinking of Glenn Miller.
Ditto with Gary Bussey. To me, he'll always be Buddy Holly.

The problem with these is that I don't have one specific favourite movie and I'll also forget about ones sometimes til someone mentions it, and then I'll think, 'oh ya,I realy liked that one too'
so in no particular order: Shawshank redemption Amelie It could happen to you Life is Beautiful Top Gun Hunt for red October Vanilla Sky and the older James Bond films are fun (silly, but fun)

Bev, I remember that episode!! That's so funny. He is gross to me too! I wonder if it was just a different person playing his roles if they would bother me? I think it's just HIM. For some reason he looks hunchback and just gross to me. And I really didn't like that movie 'Something about Mary' because of him! He just grossed me out the whole time - that was the kicker for me. My husband is dying to see 'Dodgeball' (Yes, he likes really corny movies a lot), and I am just dreading it because of Ben. I thought I was the only one!

Yes! I am showing these posts to my husband about Ben Stiller later. He thinks I'm crazy.
Ok but I am probably the only one with this -- (dont laugh)...I have an AWFUL phobia of 'little people' and muppets and E.T. I feel SOOO bad about the little people thing - it's hard to explain - like if there is one of them, I'm ok...but if it's like a CROWD of them - I can't handle it. For example, the Lord of the Rings movies - I watched about 30 minutes with my husband and almost threw up! I couldn't even have him watching it in our apartment because I could hear their voices and it made me sick! Isn't that wierd?!?!
Also - I HATE the muppets, they make me nausous, and E.T. In 6th grade my Spanish class was watching E.T. in Spanish, and I got a note to sit out of class for those 2 days. I thought this 'phobia' would go away when I got older....and I mean it's better - but I just get these really weird nausous feelings.
I've got to be the only one with that.... LOL!
BTW - if anyone else reads this I really hope I didn't offend anyone with the little people thing. I don't know why I'm like that!

after 1960 the pickins are slim, for me anyway. One: Meet Me in St. Louis(anything with Judy Garland) Two: Out of Africa(love Robert Redford and the costumes, sets, etc.) Three: Das Boot(normal people in war regardless of country would rather be doing something else!) Four: Battleground(get a kick out of Van Johnson trying to find TP) Five: Lawrence of Arabia Six: The Great Dictator(Charlie kicking the globe around -lol Seven: Our Vines Have Tender Grapes Eight: 1776 Nine: The Enchanted Cottage -1945 Ten: The War of the Worlds(the alien head still scares the poop out of me!) Eleven: The Monty Python Movies Twelve: It Happened One Night(Clark Gable-need I say more)
I could go on forever but these are ones I could watch again and again and not get sick of them!

Heather, you're a gal after my own heart!
Oh Yeah! "Das Boot"! I forgot! I gotta add that one to my list.
So tell me, Girlfriend, have you seen "Summer of '42"? Jennifer O'Neal is SOOO beautiful and does an incredible job. It's a real tear-jerker!
"Enchanted Cottage" was good too.
Did you happen to see "The Boy In Blue"? It's what got me so interested in the sport of rowing.
Yeah -- movies before 1960. GREAT flicks back then.
You MUST have loved "Psycho," then.....?

Heather Robin, You are from eastern PA too? Whereabouts? I'm between Allentown and Philly.
After I put Mommy Dearest as one of my favorites I wondered what people would think. I actually think the acting was excellent that's why I by no means approve of what she did to her daughter So please don't take it the wrong way.
Glad to have a PA buddy.

I was just curious. Depending on your viewpoint, I know alot of people get a kick out of it being over the top and all the rumored mishaps that happened during filming. Supposedly it was Joan's ghost . I think it is almost a cult classic. And I am from the camp that doesn't believe that Joan beat her kids. Let's just say I am close to a reliable source of information. Yes, I am from Eastern PA, I grew up in the Allentown area and now live in Berks County. I think there is one other person who lives in the Phila area, it is always nice to meet a local!

Really????? I knew nothing about the filming or controversy over it. I just remember watching it years ago and thinking out good Joan acted in it and how good the child actors did. And cult???/ Ewww that's freaky. Ok I guess I won't tell anyone anymore that I like that movie...makes me look bad Anyhow, we probably live real close. I'm in Montgomery county right next to berks. My husband does real estate appraising on the side and has been to the Berks county area a million times!

the movies you mentioned but will look for them either thru Netflix or on Turner Classic Movies. I have just lately become a fan of Anthony Perkins. I saw him in Catch 22 and there is just something about his acting...so smooth almost like he isn't acting, just going with the flow. I think what he had is hard to find in actors today, especially the big names. My husband and I feel that there are a ton of great actors out, even better than the big celebrities, they are just undiscovered or hanging out in art films and stage. We both took several film classes in college and are always on the look out for good stories. My husband loves this group of Italian horror flicks from the 60's or 70's, I can't think of the titles. I also need to add one more film. Summertime with Katherine Hepburn. You can see the love and pain and sadness through her eyes, she doesn't even have to say a word, now that is acting!!!

from your list of favorites! We all like different movies for different reasons, and it doesn't make you look bad! I am a big war movie freak and I know alot of people find that strange. Anything about World War II and look out, I'm watching it! Faye Dunaway did an interesting portrayal of Joan there are lots of stories behind Mommie Dearest just go to the library and check out movie books. And cult films are films that take on a life of their own like Pink Flyod the Wall, The Rocky Horror Picture Show they become part of our culture for some strange reason. Remember that Johnny Depp movie Ed Wood? Ed Wood films are considered cult classics because the special effects and acting are so obvious and fun.
