My husband takes Altenol and Celexa and it has slowed him down a lot.(no complaints from me) Thank goodness, my blood pressure is OK so I'm not on anything. Menopause has slowed me down enough in that area. Good thing we are both in the same boat or there could be a problem.

I can't use Vagisil or any of those cremes because they irritate me. My stomach isn't the only thing I have that is sensitive. KY jelly seems to be OK.

As far as the Estrace Creme, I just dab it about 3 times a week. You might call the pharmacist about whether your old prescription is still good.

Getting old is hell!!! Not really, though. I feel like I am in a really good place in my life right now. One good thing about menopause is that you don't have to worry about those darn periods anymore. I hear the other young girls complaining about that time of the month and YIPPEE I don't have to worry about that anymore!!!!

I just tried a little of the Estrace cream about a half hour ago, and you know what, it's really calmed things down already!

You're THE BEST, Barbie!

About those periods? I never had them. Not a one. The ONLY advantage to being sterile.

Hey Bev,

Yuck, I feel for you, I used to get UTIs all the time (starting at age 9), and I remember my first one was so bad I wouldn't stop crying and yelling, my mom end up making me an alcoholic "brown cow" just to shut me up and calm me down!

I have found that drinking more water really helps, I drastically increased my water intake about three years ago when I started working in call centres (I found 8 hours of constant talking really drying on the throat) and I stopped getting the UTIs as much. But I drink a lot of water. Can't really estimate how much per day, but I got through 6 18L bottles of water in a month, and I'm the only one who drinks it! Also, obviously cranberry juice helps too

I noticed you mentioned you didnt' like Dove and Ivory, I'm the same way, I love Zest and Lever 2000 but they're too harsh. This might sound silly, but I just keep two bars in the shower, one for the sensitive part and the one I like for the rest of me!

One other thing I thought of, and I don't know if this would help, but what about putting some epsom salts in the bath? This is a little personal, but I had to have a surgery quite a few years ago called a hymenectomy (hopefully you can guess what it is) and they recommended daily baths with epsom salts to prevent infection, so you would think it would work for UTIs too...but I'm just assuming.

Hope you feel better soon!

I'll bet you ARE happier now. I'm not at all surprised. Sometimes sex gets in the way of a lot of stuff.

And you're wrong. I SOOOO believe you're nuts! Oh yeah.

Kelly,

Just curious if you have kids? I only ask because my sister had to have a hymenectomy and had trouble during her first childbirth. She didn't want to have an episiotomy (sp?), but the perineum would just not give.

Hello,

No I don't have kids, I'm still a fairly young one myself, I'm 22. I know my mom had to have an episiotomy with me, now she didn't need the hymenectomy but she did have a bit of trouble in that department so maybe it runs in the family?

Did your sister eventually have the episiotomy? I'm a wimp, I might go for elective c-section if I ever have kids

Hi Girlfriend! How are you feeling? Any residuals from the colonoscopy?

Thanks for the great ideas. Two bars of soap, eh? Well, DUH. Why didn't I think of that? Okay, yeah, I can do that. (I LOVE Zest too!) Okay, Zest for my bod and Ivory for my ... well....

Yeah, drink more water. Groan. I have to fight to get that stuff down me. I remember a time when it took me a week to get down one -- that's ONE -- sports bottle. A solid week! Now I manage to get down about 4 cups of water a day. Not much, I know; I've GOT to find a way to increase that! My fingers are so bloated, I can no longer wear any of my rings (and I had them all made larger just 3 years ago). The doctor was amazed when he saw them (not the rings, the fingers). He said that my blood pressure med is also a diuretic, so it should take care of the water retention. (It doesn't.)

Okay, so I'll just drink more water. My mother-in-law, bless her crazy, wild heart, loved beer -- it's all she ever drank. When I asked her why she never drank water, she said, "Are you kidding?! I piss in that stuff!"

Thanks for your post, Kelly. Hope you're doing well.

Bev

Hey Bev!

No results yet I'm afraid, although I spoke to the receptionist and she hinted that they didn't find anything, so we'll see. It's back to the doctor this week to get the results and hopefully a referral to a more competent GI doc who is actually willing to look at my gall bladder ultrasound results.

Wish me luck! And hope you feel better soon

Bev, I too have suffered with UTI's for years. I still bathe, Pure and Natural soap was suggested to me by a friend whose doc told her to use it. It comes in a bar, no high perfume, just a nice clean smell. In my part of the country, with the lovely humidity and heat, our skin will stick together, like under the arms, between the legs, behind the knees. I use powder for these areas, if by chance you may be using powder in your underwear, or give yourself a good dusting after the bath. No more, keep the powder away from the genital area.

I also use All Free and Clear, its a little cheaper than some of the others, but it gets those clothes clean.

HFCS, I do not drink juice period. I do take Cranberry Fruit, it comes in the vitamin section (I got mine at Walmart), follow the directions on the bottle, it comes in capsule form, take it every day for urinary health. great stuff.

I also take a maintenance anti-biotic, Macrodantin (rather cheap, its been around for a long time) every day. Boy, when i run out of it or decide i dont need it any more, I can tell a huge difference, a small mg dose does me fine.

Go ahead, take a bath, just dont use extremely hot water.

There is a soap substitute, Cetaphil, my grandmother used it. I think WM has thier own version. Try it out.

Wish I had a whirlpool bath, I know you will love it. Hope ya get better soon honey !!! gayla
