i feel ok. mentally, i'm in a good place. i'm in a great mood (probably because i have the house to myself for a few hours!), and i discovered ICYHOT cream, which seems to be good at distracting my nerve endings a bit. i actually feel deceptively good physically. achy, but not too bad. that is, 'til i try to do something. then i about fall over. went to the grocery store for aforementioned ICYHOT and thought i was going to pass out in the car in the parking lot.

anyway, i don't care about all that and i'm going to a danged movie tonight, once it cools off a bit. i'm sick of sitting in this house and my hands have been too achy for the past 2 days to do any knitting (DAMNIT!). i'm BORED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

how are you, Sweets? how does that flower box look? was it rewarding if exhausting? i think from here on out i just have to look at stuff that way- do the things i absolutely must do and the things i enjoy doing. and the drudgery will just have to wait, right!?

Hey, that's funny, I was going to mention topical creams to you today. I was thinking about your poor achy hands and there was an article in the FM newsletter (the one by Kristin Thorson, worth getting if you don't already) about a bunch of studies on a bunch of topical analgesics and stuff and how they definitely help in statistically significant ways. My favorite happens to be Aspercreme because it doesn't smell. Is IcyHot that blue gel? Does it smell like menthol?

I have the place to myself at the moment too. Isn't it heavenly!! My flowers are looking good, I'm almost done, it's KILLING my back, but it's worth it -- gardening is one of my top 10 things to do. And yes, conserving our energy for the MUST do's and the WANT to do's is exactly the right way to look at it!!

What movie do ya wanna see? "Troy"???!!!! Great eye candy from what I here! Hang in there, my favorite cicada buff!! Glad you're in a good mood. Attitude is everything. Pain is inevitable, but suffering is optional. Oooh, I'm gonna go change my quote!!!

sleep-wise, not so good. i really don't get this medication (desipramine). i have been having what i can only describe as "fits of sleep." does that make sense? i'm not really clock-watching at night, but i'll fall asleep and wake up mid-dream, feeling as if it should be noon, but i'll check the clock and it's only been 1/2 hour or an hour since i last saw the clock.

anyway, does that sound familiar to you at all? it's not normal and surely not good. i can't believe i'm getting good sleep this way, especially since i'm waking up just as frequently as i used to, if not more.

i'm really going to ask my doctor about Sonata and Ambien.

(uh oh--- just realized i'm going into fibro frog. now have had trouble finding words in every single post i've written. dagnabbit, i hate that frog!)

ps: i just realized i'm irritated with my primary care doc 'cause she told me i shouldn't use my Skelaxin (muscle relaxant) much. i had been avoiding it for a while since i don't want to depend on it, but i'll tell you i was so miserable last night i was getting snappish and almost about to scream (literally!) i grabbed some Relafen & skelaxin and downed 'em and felt mucho better (not perfect, but less apt to kill someone). i'm not afraid of the muscle relaxant anymore and will get the Skelaxin refilled at the rhumatologist appt Tuesday if it's the last thing i do! that and the dang sleep meds. i will bully these docs into doing what i want them to do!

Jen did you have to hold yourself up on the grocery cart? Or just pray you could make it to your car without falling down in the middle of the lot?
Funny thing happened the other day. Mom and I were at health food store. By the time we got in line I was exhausted and out of it, but I didn't think much of it. I coughed, I supposed cause of my allergies. ANd the bagging guy was like "do you have what's going around?" It took me a few secs to understand/hear what he said/realize he was talking to me and I was like "no, I think it's just allergies." Later that day, I was thinking...considering I was probably as pale as a ghost, my eyes looked racoon-ish, I was basically holding myself up on the cart, and I wa out of it, and then I coughed, no wonder he thought i had a cold! LoL. Uy!
What movie r u gonna see. Eventually once my headaches are better I'll see a movie. Maybe Mean Girls Or..what movies are out right now?

what a good perspective!

anyway, ICYHOT isn't blue and i don't think that's a menthol smell, but it is a distinctive smell.... hmmm... yeah, maybe that's menthol.

i will try aspercreme, too. going to shop around to see what i like the best!

i know the last bunch of times i made chocolates my back really paid the price, but it is worth it to me. i always get so giddy happy when i make chocolate, it's almost not fair! i kept saying "i'd love to spend my days doing this!" looks like one day soon i'll be able to! *fingers crossed* i'm just going to have to find coping mechanisms to deal with the pain.

pain is inevitable, suffering is optional.

love it!

that's the Denzel Washington movie. i want to catch it before it goes out of the theaters.

i saw Mean Girls a few weeks ago. i really really liked it. last week i saw Van Helsing. it was.... interesting.

i am going to see Troy next Saturday. a group of people are renting the balcony of a historical movie theater in town. it's lovely and there are 2 viewing rooms (30 people, per) and we can set up a table and bar in the room in between. it's a cool thing to do, 'cause it's like being red-carpeted in and set up in an elite spot. kinda neat! people can see you up in the balcony but aren't allowed in, and we have our own potties and everything, i think. anyway, it's really cool. it's the best way for a fibro-chick like me to see a movie that's 2 hours and 45 minutes long! i can get up and walk around and not bother people! plus, we never fill the seats, so there's usually stretch-out room, too!

i'm done rambling!

Jen, it doesn't sound like the sleep meds are working right for you yet. When I first started them, it was like someone knocked me unconscious for 12 straight hours. Andy said I barely moved all night. I was used to waking up several times just enough to look at the clock and getting up at least once to pee. But when I started the tricyclic, I started sleeping straight through. I've only gotten up to pee during the night twice in the past year (both in the past month actually!).

I was just reading an article about some people reacting differently to tricyclics. Let me go see if I can find it. I'll post this, then I'll be right back. I also haven't forgotten I owe you a post on my fibro diet research. brb.

Found it. From the FM Network newsletter, April 2004. It's the one by Kristin Thorson that I mentioned earlier.

It says that 5-10% of Caucasians do not effectively metabolize drugs that require liver enzyme 2D6. Common drugs in this class include tricyclic antidepressants and codeine. This can lead to serious adverse effects. Perhaps you're in that 5-10%? It doesn't say what the effects would be, but I assume it would be the usual ones just much worse. My migraine book author calls them the "four horsemen of the apocalypse, constipation, dry mouth, weight gain and sedation." But that would mean you should be SUPER sedated and it doesn't sound like you are. Maybe the dose isn't high enough yet?? I have no idea, I'm not a doctor, I just play one on TV!

Sonata and Ambien are both supposed to be excellent so sounds like the logical next step. Just to double check, you ARE using an eyeshade, aren't you? It really helps.
