I'll tell my Mum all this. She doesn't want to go on HRT cos her mother had breast cancer. Soy milk and tofu for her I think!

Just thought I better mention-I know nothing about HRT and am not endorsing that book! Just mentioned it. Thanks.

Good for you Linz!!! You mum shouldn't go on it ESPECIALLY if breast cancer runs in the family. They used to think it protected your heart, now they know that is NOT true. The only GOOD thing it does is keep the bones strong if you have the tendency towards osteoperosis. But if you get plenty of calcium and exercise you won't have a problem with your bones anyway.

What I would recommend is frequent bone density scans so she can catch it if/when it starts in. There are new meds out on the market that can stop the progression of osteoporosis dead in it's tracks. Fosomax comes to mind....but if she is vigilant about the calcium (and magnesium and boron and Vit D) and exercise, especially strength training exercises she'll not have the problem to begin with. Good luck to her.................and BTW, she has a GREAT daughter to be so concerned about her!!!

and Miacalcin nasal spray (calcitonin), which I take because the Fosamax upset my tummy!

LOVE this guy! He sure has gotten me through many a tough time, believe me! The night I discovered my genetic problem, he was there for me. The night before the resultant surgery, he was there for me. The day I was told I needed a breast biopsy for fear of Paget's Disease, he was there for me.
He still is my friend. I just have to treat him with respect. I partook a little of his comfort just last night, as a matter of fact. I had a potato roll beforehand, and afterwards I had some Veggie Stix "just to be safe." My tummy was perfectly happy; no problems at all.
Yes, Jack and I go WAAAAY back.....

Well, after having taken this stuff for 45 years now, it's pretty safe to say that the damage, if any, is done.
But it's time to stop taking it. Besides, I'm taking so much soy -- everything I eat is soy -- it's gonna have to take the place of the estrogen from now on.
Yeah, you're right. I WILL make it. I may have a few emotional outbreaks and get a little sensitive, but I'll get over it. And by now, I'm SOOO used to the hot flashes (oops, I meant POWER SURGES!) It's just another page I have to turn, nothing more.
So, how UUUU DUin'?
