I think I'm cutting all my hair off short-short. Think: Halle Berry before she grew it out.

Yikes!

How's your hair ordeal going? I'm sure it looks bee-yoo-tee-ful!

Wow! that's brave....I bet it will look ravishing!!!! My hair ordeal is kind of at that stage that takes a lot of patience (sp?)....the stage where I am thinking of going back to how I had it....but I am going to stick with it til it gets to the final length and then decide. I get it trimmed this Friday...just shaped up, ya know to get me to the length I'm shooting for. I hope I can last til it gets to looking half way decent!

I know I'm going to kick myself for doing this! Not 'cause I don't like my hair short--- I do! But because it's such a tail-pain to grow out.

I know myself, this is going to eat at me 'til I just suck it up and do it.

I just hope boys still flirt with me once I chop it all off...

just chop 6 inches off? How long is it now? I keep on dreaming about 2 things...one cutting my hair short and two having another baby! Weird huh? Because I'm not ready to do either. My hair is half way down my back....I mean its long! I kinda sorta want to cut my hair...but I think I'm to attatched! It's taken me a long time to grow it this long!

Oh man...its just hair..It will grow back!!!! I think you would look really cute! I say go for it! Have you ever had it that short before? Ya know what I would do...I would cut it in stages!!! If your hair is pretty long...it might be fun to try lots of different styles, until you finaly reach the REALLY short one!!! Just my thoughts!!

Good luck!

I adore short hair, and it's not all hanging in your face, but it's not always that easy to look after - you HAVE to get it cut VERY often which can be a pain, and depending on the style, it can take as much work or more than a longer style.

If you've never had short hair before try on a few wigs to see how you feel about different styles, or have a go at one of those computer programs where you put in your picture and try different styles. This should help you feel more confident about it. Also take advice from your hairdresser first as they'll tell you whether your hair/face shape will suit the style you're thinking of - cowlicks, kinks and curls can all be a problem. I have the most ridiculous kinky hairline and uncontrollable fine wavy/curly hair I know!

If you want very short hair you need a fairly balanced face shape to carry it off. Sadly, I can't carry off a crop. You can't see it so well from my picture because of the angle, but my cheekbones are far wider than my forehead and I have a long face and pointy chin - diamond shaped face - NOT good for cropped styles much to my dismay.

Mine is short though, but I'm thinking of going longer again. Growing out is even more of a pain for me though with my waves and curls just where you don't need them!!!!

Good luck with the new hairdo - let us see it when you're done!!

So whats everones opinions on bangs?? I just spent 2 years growing my hair out. Its just past my shoulder, a little longer in back. My "bangs" are about chin leangth. I have a kinda oval face with a BIG CROOKED POINTY NOSE! I think having no bangs makes my nose look bigger than it already is. I read an article in a fashion mag a couple weeks ago that said bangs are back in?! My hubby doesn't want me to cut it but I wear it up almost everyday because I can't stand it in my face! I even told him I would leave the leagnth and just cut a little bang so it out of my way and he shakes his head no! I know he would still love me if I cut it but I hate to do it knowing he probably won't like it! Easy for him to say he SHAVES his head bald every day! He did have really long hair until it started falling out!

Jen, how exciting! An extreme haircut like that is a big deal. My advice would be to take a looong time to think about it before taking the plunge. I did the extreme Halle Berry thing my senior year of college, and it was a lot of fun for a while, but after about a year I decided I felt more like me with long hair. That was about a year ago... and it's STILL growing out!! Argh! It FINALLY got long enough to pull back in a pony tail about a month ago, and it's so much nicer. I don't want to dissuade you here, but to remind you what a huge decision this is. If you do go through with it... I want to see pics!!!!!!!

BTW, here's a pic of me with the ultra-short do for those who are interested.

Aww, thanks girls!

Bev, enjoy that pic, because the short hair is going away for a long time, lol. I'm just a lazy, low maintenance girl, and having to use gel and style it every single day was too much for me. I just love being able to pull it back and go. Ahh.

Jenny, I agree with Bev, you have gorgeous cheekbones! I bet you'd look good with short hair too. It's all about finding the right style!

That's GORGEOUS! I love your hair that short.... It's so cute and sexy all at the same time!

I think it takes a bold woman to pull off short hair. (But then again, I understand wanting to grow it out... Staying the same gets boring and when it's short there aren't that many options.)

I cut 6 inches off about 2 months ago. I really wanted to go super short, but decided to stage it just in case. I like my hair the length it is... It's about chin-length in the front and a little shorter in the back. It's a bob with long layers. It's cute, but I think I'm just jonesin' for that short hair!

I've always changed my hair with wild abandon. It's been blonde, brown, red, and REALLY red! It was even eggplant once, on accident, but that was in college and I did a lot of drinking then... That's my excuse! It looked awful! Over the years it's been short short, medium, and down my back. I've worn it curly, I've worn it straight. It IS just hair! And it's fun to play. That's why it's there, in my opinion. My best friend, on the other hand, feels the exact OPPOSITE! She has hair down her back and is in tears if she gets a trim... Oh well. At least she looks good in long hair... which I don't! My hair is really fine but there's lots of it, which translates to stringy and clumpy when it gets long.

And I loved it. I'm glad you all are honest, though, and warning me about it! That shows how sweet you are.

I am blessed with an oval-shaped face which means I can carry off all the freaky changes I love to try. I think God was thinkin' when he planned that out! "Self, she's going to be flighty AND vain, so let's at least make it so she doesn't look too ridiculous," I think he said to himself!

Actually, I'm going back to a version of the same hair style I had about 4 years ago. I loved it, but got bored after a few years. So maybe it's time to go back! I'm excited! I just thought it was ironic, 'cause Nugget was talking about growing hers out last week, and her I am planning on cutting it all off!

I think bangs are great, but they're going to call attention to your cheekbones and your eyes. That's good unless you have unfortunate cheekbones and/or eyes.

Oval faces are PERFECT for this look, believe me. That's the face shape I have. And don't worry about your nose. A) I'm sure it's perfectly fine and B) It's nice to have a feature that sets off the others. That's SEXY! Take a look at the magazines... the girls who are the prettiest and sexiest are not perfect by far. Think of Winona Ryder and Christina Ricci with those tiny faces and ridiculously huge eyes! Think of Angelina Jolie (who I think is the most beautiful woman on the planet) and those LIPS! If they were normal size, she wouldn't be as drop-dead as she is. And if you're at all concerned about your nose and bangs, think of my current crush Owen Wilson. That man has quite an interesting nose and girls line up to swoon over him. Perfection is OUT!

What's in style right now is a really long fringe of bangs that can kind of go over the eyes or get swept off to the side. That's a great trend to jump on, 'cause if you're not loving them, they're easier to grow out.

I say GO FOR IT! Your husband will love it if you love it, TRUST ME. You'll feel better if you're not just pulling it up and out of your way. And if you feel pretty, you'll look gorgeous. He'll love it! Especially if the first time he sees the new do is when you're wearing something sexy. He'll always equate the new do with that vampy look! Insta-swoon!!!! Again, I say TRUST ME ON THAT!

Jen, I'm the same way, I get tired of my hair when it's the same for too long so I'm constantly changing the color, etc. too. You know what I say... GO FOR IT! If your hair's in a bob already it wouldn't take TOO long to grow it back out to that point if you don't like it shorter. And the more I think about it the more I remember how fun it was to have really short hair!

So, do you have any picsof the eggplant hair?? I'd love to see that... sounds like that Outback Steakhouse commercial! ROFL!

No, Kree... when I was in my twenties I didn't let anyone take my picture (weird!), so I don't have pictures of that horrible eggplant do....

To make matters worse, it was down to my bra strap in the back and I wore these terrible baggy clothes all the time. I'm really really pale, so the eggplant veil just made me look like I vomited as a hobby. My skin turned this awful shade of greenish-yellow as it reflected off the eggplant.

Oh my. I'm glad there are no pics! I think I was Goth before anyone was Goth... and I didn't mean to be....

I had my hair trimmed up last night. Added some long layer and my "bangs" are about nose leagnth, just long enough to get behind my ear and still get it in a ponytail. I'm going to try this for a bit. I have a baby clip holding my long bangs back today and I'll see if I can handle that! I just can't stand my hair hanging in my face at work!

I'll try and get a picture up soon!

Hmm... okay, from the sound of it I think it's a good thing you don't have any pics. It's okay, we all did things we look back on with disgust! When I was in 7th grade I buzzed the bottom of my head (from about the ears down), so that when I wore it up in a ponytail you could see it. Now I don't know what the heck I was thinking!!

OH, I've had my share. My nartural color is somewhere around mudd. Haven't seen it since I was about 15 so its probably gray now! I dye my hair a bright auburn which eveyone raves about. When I was in highschool (remember I graduated in 1988) I did the bleached blonde BIG hair! AWFUL! Well I got a bug up my butt when I was about 24 and decided I was going to darken it up, well I ended up with GRASS GREEN hair late one Fridany night and HAD to work 8am Saturday am!! I was mortified! I pulled it back and went to work crying! My boss took pitty and let me leave early to go to the salon. Over $100 dolloars later, a lot of powder bleach and about 4 inches shorted, I emerged a chocolately brown.

Well, one would think I would learn my lesson and get my coloring down professionally. But no, I'm too cheap! Over the years I have had BOZO orange and I have also done the eggplant purple! I don't experiment anymore! I find a color that works and I stick it! At least for a few months!

Michele, we have the same hair history. It took my mother $125 to get the eggplant out 'cause she just couldn't take it anymore!

I've also had Friday nights (see what happens when I don't have a date!?!?!?!) where I dye it and something goes horribly awry. I always dashed to the all-night Rite Aid to get a darker color to fix 'er up. Oy... what girls go through for beauty and vanity!

I'm glad you tried it. It gets boring to have the same thing all the time. I will say, though, that I find bangs just a little shorter than that much more tolerable. I, too, hate my hair in my face. Ya keep doing that PAH thing with your lips to blow it out of the way.

Do it! Do it! You have such a gorgeous face that you can definitely wear it well.

I cut mine off in college and have tried to grow it back, but I always end up cutting it off. Keep that in mind: It's a PAIN IN THE ARSE to grow short hair out.

I think I have more pics of me with short hair if you want to see examples. I have a square face (with a really pointy chin!), if that helps any.

Hey, Pretty Lady, we have the same hair style! (Oops -- I almost said "hair-do" there, but caught myself just in time.) Chin-length in front and shorter in the back.

Okay, it's time for both of us to change our pix. We can take a picture of ourselves eating DARK chocolates and dancing.

Believe it or not, I was actually one of only two people in my school stupid enough to do that! I went away to camp the summer before and the cool girls had it done, though, so that was my motivation. Silly me. But yeah, I did the wing thing too... I shudder to think about it now!

Girlfriend, I'm not the one to ask. Mags is our computer expert; she taught me everything I know. I went to the Computer School For Dummies, but was too dumb to understand it. Damn, Mags is good!

Okay, this is what I do. You need a website where you can post the picture. My ISP does it for me (I'm with Comcast). Who is your ISP? What services do they provide for you? You need personal web publishing where you can go into "HTTP File Uploading." That's where you "store" your picture. Then you highlight the link where it says "File Uploaded" and copy the URL "address" as you would when you post an image. Then come back on the boards, highlight "Image" and enter the URL address.

It's a snap!

Jules, I would be happy to post a picture for you if your ISP doesn't provide that service. We had a problem with several people's ISPs, such that they were unable to do it. If you would like me to do it for you, obviously I need a picture. Is it digital? Do you have to scan it? Try to save it as a "jpg" file and e-mail it to me as an attachment; here's my e-mail address: RowHard@comcast.net Be sure to tell me your "handle" (Jules) so I know who you are, and be sure to give me a message to post with the picture.

Okay, Mags, how'd I do?

Steph, once you log on there should be a grey box (the 2nd one from the top) that says "add picture" and lets you browse your computer to find the one you want. Once you've picked it you hit submit and it adds it to your album. Then if you want to post it here you highlight the box under the pic that says URL and hit CTRL-C to copy it. Then you click the image box here and hit CTRL-V to paste it! That should work! Let me know how it goes...

Jen,

Good for you for trying something different. Although I do find guys generally like longer hair, some women look incredible with short hair, as well, guys do like it when women try new things with their hair (just as long as it's not every week).

However, it amazes me that you ladies can talk for 6 pages (!) about hair . If this was a predominantely male forum the thread would go like this:

"Hey, I'm getting my hair cut"
"so?"

end of thread.

However, it's nice to enjoy some 'girl talk' every once and while considering this town, my work, and my friend's are mostly guys.

Can't wait to see the pics when it's done!

That cracks me up! You're right... we sure got a lot of mileage out of the hair talk, didn't we???

Listen, I haven't heard of a man yet who would turn down all of the following women: Halle Berry, Alyssa Milano, Jamie Lee Curtis, Winona Ryder, Faith Hill and Meg Ryan. Maybe they aren't ALL a particular guy's taste, but short hair can look DAMN good when it's done right and most men can pick at least one lady there he wouldn't ignore just for her short hair!

We'll see. I'm going to try to get some pics when I can so you all can vote.

Glad you're here to balance the girl talk, somewhat! Hopefully we're at least amusing!?

Steph,
Thanks for the appreciation I definitely enjoy some good girl talk every once and a while and I'm glad I can make you guys laugh.

Jen,
There are lots of really good looking women with short hair, and I don't know any guys who would not date a girl simply because she had short hair. Lots of women look better with short hair, especially if they have a nice kissible neck.... um, but I digress.

There is beauty in every woman and it's great that everybody has different tastes, that's what makes life interesting.

However, just a side comment. I don't see what the big fuss about Halle Berry is. My roommates agree. I mean she's not bad looking, but everybody makes her out to be drop dead gorgeous and no guys that I have talked to think she's that incredible. But, on the otherhand, some of the other ladies you mention ....

Jamie

I'm not a big Halle fan, either, but I know a lot of people who think she's gorgeous. Ah well... differences make the world go round!

Now I have to go see if I have a neck suitable for short hair!

See my pic? Remember the updated pic of me and my best friend? See the hairdo (ooops--hairCUT)? Hubby hated it. Too short! I grew it out, and when he saw that picture the other day he said, "oh, I hate your hair like that!" Now, did he say he liked my hair like it IS? NOOOOOOOOOOO. Men!

Oh the other hand, did you read the post from our gorgeous Canadian pilot? (I feel safe because I know he's not reading this thread anymore.) Any-who.... he likes short hair. Hmmmmm....... maybe I need to re-think this.....

I LOVE the crooner! He's our fave. John something-or-other. He sings in the old style like Frank Sinatra in his younger days. LOVE IT! Can you believe he's only 16?

I hate seeing people get voted off; it really hurts. It was awful last week when the gal broke down. I LOVED how the guy handled it last night, singling while fondling Simon's face! Very, VERY funny! Something tells me he was waiting a long time to do that.....

Yeah, I'm sorry that he got voted off. He's got tons of personality AND a great voice! Ah well, it was inevitable. There are better voices in the competition. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get a contract, though.

I think my fave is the little Hawaiian girl with the flower. She's got a great voice!

I've been watching too!!!
I love John the crooner - he's so sweet 16. Unfortunately for him, he looks just like a VERY DULL British snooker player called Steve Davies. But I won't hold that against him, I love the way he sings, especially for such a baby! Even Simon likes him!!!
I have to admit that the talent in American idol far surpassed that in the last Pop Idol over here. AND how confident are you guys!!! Over here we shiver and shake and falter and cry at every available opportunity.

It's really something to see the difference in those shows - oh, I prefer our presenters (Ant & Dec) to that guy who presents American Idol, though, I forget his name...

Wait, wait, wait Shell. You're arguing that there are, in fact, snooker players who aren't dull? That's going to take some convincing for me. I'm remembering Bank Holidays where there was nothing else on... yeesh.

Jen, I think that's great you're cutting your hair short. It's just hair - it'll grow back if you don't like it. But, if you have your hair this short now (from what's in your pic) and like it, I'm sure you'll love it. I think you look great with short hair now.

And don't worry about the boys not liking it. Think of it as a jerk filter - if a guy is truly worthy, he'll won't pass you over because you have short hair, and you'll be left with the good ones!

I'm whacking my hair off after the wedding - I CAN'T WAIT!!! I'm keeping it long for the wedding, because I want to pull it up. Plus, my fiance hates short hair on women, so I'm waiting till I get him married! hehehe I've started gathering pics to show my stylist what I like so she can come up with a style that will work with my hair & face.

So, what did you decide to do anyway? And if you decided yes, when're ya doing the deed?

That made me think of this girl I used to work with. Whenever we had to get dressed up for our office parties, she'd say to look kinda bad for a few days before, so you look extra good for the "big event". LOL She was a character.

Linz, I just hate having long hair. It gets stuck in the seatbelt & purse straps, gets staticky & frizzy, blows in your eyes, sticks to your lipstick, takes forever to blow dry....need I go on?

We're not really counting down to our weddings...we're counting down to our hair cuts!

That's great. I love it! Jerk filter. I'm going to remember that and use it! (I'll attribute it to Mags, a very wise woman!)

Actually, I had bangs when that pic was taken, but the rest of my hair was well past my shoulders! Then I cut it to chin-length less than 2 months ago. I like change.

And by the way... it's done! Just got back a few hours ago. I love it!

PS: I think it's great you're cutting your hair after the wedding. It's like a right of passage, anyway. Most men never see it coming, but women all know it's going to happen well in advance.
