I was told to come here and ask about pregnancy with IBS. I want to have kids in the future and I was wondering if the symptoms get worse and if you get enough vitamins, calcium, etc. off of the IBS diet. Im worried I wouldnt be able to handle it but I really want kids!

My IBS is much better when I'm pregnant! I don't get the stomach aches as bad or as offten! In turn I get bad morning sickness!! But that has nothing to do with IBS. That just depends on the person! My mom and all but one of my sisters get morning sickness. Then I have friends who don't get sick at all. So I wouldn't worry about it to bad. Most women with IBS feel better while they are pregnant.

Good luck!

Hi! In response to getting enough nutrients while pregnant with IBS...go to these two links I've added and print off the food lists. Then read about how to prepare them and what to eat them with. When you eat soluable fiber, such as rice, white bread, or pasta, with your vegies, eat small portions at a time, and graze on them safely through out the day.

My major advice is: study Heather's diet, know it well, and present it to your OB/GYN or primary care doctor for now (if you haven't already). (Because we must be healthy first in order to get pregnant) Finally, I highly recommend liquid vitamins. You can get a prescription or Centrum now has a liquid vitamin at your local drug store or Walmart. Especially if you have IBS with diahrrea. Be persistant with your doctors regarding your nutrition concerns. My experience with doctors is that they can let your diet slip through the cracks. Maybe they can refer you to a nutrtionist through your insurance.
Here are those links. http://www.helpforibs.com/diet/fiber1.asp & http://www.helpforibs.com/diet/fiber2.asp You can also do a search on the message board. Type in Pregnancy and IBS, and do a "within the last year" search. I know there is stuff on here. Best wishes
