How do you cope?

I was just wondering to everyone out there - what is one thing that you do to cope with IBS when things get too tough?

When things get too tough? First, I take my meds. Then I take a long soak in a hot tub. Then some peppermint tea, and I go to bed. I get my mind OFF the IBS by watching a movie on TV while in bed, or, like Heather, I read a trashy novel in bed while sipping my tea. Meanwhile, of course, I'm running to the bathroom with my diarrhea. But finally I "sleep it off." Works every time.

Move into the bathroom!! Just kidding, well actually almost move in. I sit in my rocking chair, with my cup of chamomile tea, heating pad on tummy or back, watch TV and MAKE SURE NO ONE IS IN THE BATHROOM!! My family knows when I'm flaring by my looks(no laughing) and my mood, and also by my running!! Sorry need humour to cope. Take care Sue

Yeah, I read a book as well. Last time I had an attack I read "The Time Traveller's Wife". It seems like a good book for an IBS attack if anyone's looking for recommendations. I also bust out the ultra soft Charmin (usually we use more eco-friendly toilet paper). I turn up 'lectric blanket high and get the heating pad out as well.
Oh, and Bev you're right. When I finally stop throwing up and umm... other things, sleeping for a long time is the best cure of all!
Then the next day my husband makes me faux-chicken noodle soup. It's really, really good.

Hey, ChinaGirl --
Speaking of chicken soup, I'm making some of my own and freezing it -- just in case I need it in the future. I'm not saying I'm gonna have any more attacks, but, well, just in case.
It's NatHosp's Wild Rice Chicken Soup posted on the 5th. I made my chicken stock tonight, and it's in the fridge now. Tomorrow morning I'll skim off all the fat, and use the stock, then make the soup and freeze in individual containers. Since it's just for emergencies, I think I'll leave out the zucchini.
(But I'm leaving in the sherry, Girlfriend! )

That sounds good... around here we brown up some Veat, put it in veggie stock (the good kind from Switzerland, it costs a fortune), add some egg free noodles and carrots and celery. Yum.
I love Veat, they make soy chicken and soy salmon! Plus, with the Veat there's no fat.

Thanks for the web site, ChinaGirl!
Do you not eat chicken? Fish? Are you a total vegetarian? Do you like Veat better than chicken or fish? While their web page states it replaces meat, I don't see any -- they have "bites," "breast," "nuggets" and "fillet," but what about BURGERS?
Have you tried Boca burgers? Is Veat better than Boca?

I am a total vegetarian, and so is my husband. When we have kids they will be too! The dogs were vegetarian for awhile (my dog Cara has IBS and so we had to try a variety of special foods to find one that worked for her). They loved the taste of their veggie dog food, but it gave Cara awful gas!
I've been a vegetarian for 13 years or so (since I was 12) so I don't remember what real chicken or fish tastes like... I didn't really like fish when I was little. I had some chicken by mistake (a restaurant screwed up) a year ago and it was awful. But that could have been an emotional reaction too. I love Veat though... we eat the chicken breasts and the salmon ALL THE TIME. You can cook them any way you'd cook chicken or fish. They're precooked so they take a lot less time, and like I said there's very little fat.
They don't have anything burger like, they're lying on that one. I do like Veat better than Boca for "chicken" stuff. But I like Morningstar Grillers best for burgers. Boca makes the best breakfast sausages though!
Oh, have you tried Quorn fillets? Man those are tasty. They taste sort of like how I remember breaded fish fillets from Long Johns Silvers. They're an English product I had all of the time in England and loved... they're bringing their products over here now slowly. They had the BEST luncheon meat. It was so good. It's not here yet, which is a shame. Because that Ives stuff isn't really cutting it for me, and Tofurkey doesn't make a "ham".
