Irritable Bowel Syndrome Message Boards | New to group, just need some support

Hi everyone - I'm just needing some moral support more than anything. I am a 50 year old male and have been diagnosed with IBS-D and IBS-C for about two years. It literally came on overnight. Up until the night I started getting symptoms, I was very healthy and fit. I had been on a paleo diet for about 5 years and had never felt better in my life. I'm a musician and late one night coming home I decided to cheat and run through a Taco Bell. Well, something wasn't right because for the next two days I experienced excruciating heart burn and stomach pain. I went to my doctor who thought I was developing an ulcer, so he prescribed Cipro. The heart burn went away but I immediately started to experience intense gas, bloating, pain and diarrhea. This was two years ago, and I haven't been right since. The pain never goes away and always starts in the morning on my right side and eventually becomes like a "belt." The gas and bloating are unbearable at times. The diarrhea has now become more constipation. I have been to numerous doctors who have run every test imaginable and have tried every anti-spasmodic out there with no results. I'm running out of things to eat as most anything seems to cause problems. I guess the hardest thing for me to accept is that I'll have to spend the rest of my life like this. I've ordered Heather's fiber powder and Tummy Tamers, but have lost faith that anything will help. Is my story normal? Is this going to be my fate?
