Hey Bev!
Check out www.collagevideo.com. All they sell is workout videos, and you can watch 1 min samples from the videos. Also, it tells the fitness level (beginner, intermediate), the impact, etc. You can also see others reviews for the videos.

Mags, I was able to get the audio -- but not the video. It sounds like there's no aerobics, so this might work for me. I gotta check this out some more.
Thanks, Girlfriend! Now get off those video games and onto that stitchery.

Pilates is NOT aerobics. It's a series of resistance exercises. You do use large rubber bands sometimes, but mostly your own body weight. You can get some aerobic exercise because it's tough! For example, for the hundreds you lie on your back and raise your legs to a 90 degree angle. Then you curl your head and shoulders off the ground using your abs. Then you pump your arms a hundred times. It's tough! It's more like weight training than either stretching or aerobics, though it will improve your flexibility.
It actually was designed to help soldiers in army hospitals rehabilitate, though dancers do use it. That's why it uses springs (bed springs) and body weight for resistance... it's what was handy!
I would check out a class and not a book or video. It is possible to do it wrong and hurt yourself.

You can do Pilates with injuries, like I said it was designed for bed ridden soldiers. A good Pilates instructor will tell you how to modify the moves to avoid hurting your knee. You won't see anyone doing it at the gym because mostly you just need a mat!

Chinagrl, THANKS! Excellent explanation. Okay, I'm sold. Now I need to call the gym and find out about classes. Meanwhile, I think I'm gonna check out that crunch video Mags was talkin' 'bout.
Good stuff here -- THANK YOU BOTH!

Get the book, and maybe a video tape, then you can decide. I got a number of videos and gave it a fair chance.
I now love yoga (had my first class in Austin with daughter who dragged me kicking and screaming) but Pilates is just to much for me now at this age even though it's for all ages. And this if from one who still does aerobics 6 days a week. Guess it's just what you get used to.
You may be in much better shape than me. To tell the truth I always hated exercise but it is a must the older we get, darn!
KK Guess I'm the only one here not wild about it.

Bevrs I receive a Pilates video for christmas, boy I'm amazed at how much better it is than Aerobics. The Pilates are easy enough but is a great workout. I started last week and do them 3 times a week. I feel great after I do them. Try them!! Sue

Suzyq, what kind did you get? Is it a Collage Video? Or one of the Windsor kind? Where did it come from? (Mail order? Discount house?) Would you recommend yours over another kind?
