Suzyq, what kind did you get? Is it a Collage Video? Or one of the Windsor kind? Where did it come from? (Mail order? Discount house?) Would you recommend yours over another kind?
FYI - The Collage Video is the store - not a brand. They have the Winsor tapes.

Where did you get this info on Pilates? I read on the Pilates site that the first people to use it were dancers - so that's what I thought was true.

I haven't used any props at all -- I have just been on the floor - with a mat. I can't do all that jumping around myself. I also don't have a lot of time to spare -- so I've been doing the 20 min workout. Having said all that -- I am down 34 pounds and 40 inches. I also am not even all that disciplined in it -- and only do it a couple times a week -- and only started about a month to a month and a half ago. It has really helped with shaping and toning my body.

Okay, that's it. I'm ordering it. 34 pounds and 4 inches. In only a month and a half?! Wow! That's very impressive, Girlfriend!
A month and a half from now -- lets see, that's March -- very close to rowing season..... I'm Goin' For It!

oops - wait a minute -- that's my total -- Pilates was for the last part of that. Let's see -- Pilates helped me go from a size 16/18 to a size 12/14 in a month & a half. I was losing weight -- but not toning up -- the Pilates made me tone up. The inches really started coming off once I started Pilates. I have been losing the weight since I started eating for IBS -- which has been 19 weeks. I am sorry -- I didn't mean to be misleading. Forgive me?

My Pilates instructor trained with Joseph Pilates wife... he's the one who invented it. She's the one who told me about the history.
Quote:
In 1912 Pilates moved to England and began training detectives at Scotland Yard. However, when the war broke out, because of his nationality, he was interned in Lancashire and then on the Isle of Man. Pilates spent the duration of the war helping out in the camp infirmary and further developing his techniques. He devised makeshift exercise aids by attaching bedsprings in various positions so that patients recovering from injuries could exercise safely. Modern versions of this equipment can be found in Pilates studios today and are known as reformers.
That's from http://www.pilatespeople.co.uk/pilates_founder.html
pilates.com has the same info...
but this: http://www.pilates-studio.com/docs/guild/guild.htm seems like the official certification program, and thus the best source of accurate info.
There are a lot of people running around teaching Pilates that aren't really certified or correctly trained in the method... I've heard lots of horror stories!

No problem... I'm on a mission to convince the world to do Pilates. So far I've converted two people. Three if we count Bev. I'm starting small.
