I'm not sure if I'm posting on the right board so sorry if it's not.
This past February I went in for a physical. My doctor told me my Vitamin D level was really low and wanted to put me on an 8 week/once a week Vitamin D booster. I was surprised my level was low because I'm already taking a prenatal vitamin that has 2000 IU's of Vitamin D once a day every day.
Anyway, during the 8 weeks I was on the booster pill, my stomach wasn't as agitated as usual and seemed more "calm." (Ever since I've had IBS, it was always gurgly.) I still had to stay away from my triggers: dairy, caffeine, dairy foods, etc. But I just felt really good. Also, my bowel movements were the most normal they've ever been in the 10 years I've had IBS.
After I stopped taking the booster, I started taking calcium pills with Vitamin D. So, including my prenatal vitamin, I'm getting 2800 IU's of Vitamin D a day. I feel great and my bowel movements are still normal. I actually went a month and half with no diarrhea!
I know everyone is different and how their bodies react to things but I just wanted to share my story. Since I was diagnosed with IBS, I never read a connection between a Vitamin D deficiency and IBS. I'm not cured but this is the best I've felt in 10 years.

I have a friend whose IBS was helped with Vit D. I don't find it makes a difference for me, so yes, we are all different!
Glad you found something that makes you feel better.
ETA: Having said that, I realize that the dosage I take is about half of yours. I might try upping it as an experiment.

I had a blood test this spring and it showed I had low vit. D levels. I have been taking a supplement ever since and have been doing pretty good with the IBS. had an attack yesterday though, but the first one in months.

I also have a low/borderline Vitamin D level despite a well balanced diet and have been advised by my doctor to supplement. According to the MD, there is evidence that this has something to do with pain processing. I am not sure what the supplementation is doing, if anything, for the IBS, but as long as it is not megadoses, which can be dangerous, I can't see that it will hurt matters.
