OMG..... last night about 1:30 I woke up with a pain in my rectum as if I was about to pass a baseball. I got the sweats and nearly passed out. My housemate heard me moaning from downstairs and wanted to call 911. I knew it was some sort of spasm and wouldn't let her call, but I am still feeling exhausted from it 12 hrs. later. I didn't have to "go", but sure felt like something was there.

Been there! It's a gas attack - I chew 1/2 to 1 tablet of GasX when it starts to hit. The muscle around the anus feels like a charlie horse and really hurts. It may sound strange but massaging that part of the anatomy helps too.

I have been awakened in the middle of the night with this quite a few times. I find that if I sit on the toilet and bare down like I am going to the bathroom it helps to relieve the spasm. It definitely is not a pleasant way to wake up.
