Hello my friends,
I've been lurking, hope everyone is well.

I saw my neurosurgeon on Monday in Toronto. He is very pleased with the brain surgery outcome so far. As am I. I have to have an MRI so he can check things internally and give him a base line to follow from hereon in. I will be monitored at least once a year for the rest of my life for both the Chiari malformation for which I had surgery and the arachnoid cyst I also have in the front right temple on the lining of my brain. My mum and I went to Toronto just for the day and walked everywhere - 7 miles!! And it was only 114F / 44C at the heat of the day with humidex... Blech!! A little too hot!

Overall, I think I am doing well. My leg, where they took the graft from for my skull, is healing well. I am walking between 2 and 3.5 miles every morning (except yesterday - darn rain!) And get this folks, NO Chiari headaches since surgery (minor ones, a couple hours long, but NOTHING like they used to be!!)

I can start driving in 2 weeks - hurray!! 12 weeks not driving is tough. I cannot however go back to work yet for 6 to 8 weeks minimum. My right shoulder was somehow torn during my surgery and I am going for an MRI on Sept 15 to diagnose it. I went to emergency yesterday as the pain is pretty severe and to try and fast track me to the fracture clinic to see an orthopaedic specialist. (the waiting lists are between 2 and 18 months here, and 2 and 12 months in Toronto - I have referrals to both) So I'm off work, waiting for MRI results and to hopefully see the specialist before the end of October... Cross your fingers!

The weather has cooled off to welcome the start of the school year and fall... darn it anyways! I was really enjoying sitting on the patio in the afternoons with a good book!

Hugs to all!

I'm so glad to hear that you're healing up well! No headaches! That's huge! So, soooo happy for you. Sorry to hear about your shoulder. That's awful that you have to deal with that after all you've been through. Here's to hoping you get an appointment quick. Sending love and hugs your way! ~~~~~

I was fortunate to see the orthopaedic surgeon last week at our fracture clinic. The visit to emergency fast-tracked me. The ortho sent me for physio for the next 6 weeks until I see her again and she can review my MRI (which is tomorrow).

Went for my first physio appointment yesterday - 1 hour and 20 minute assessment - extremely thorough young lady!! (I'm 34, she can't be over 25, I felt old!) She can't figure out if my rotator cuff is torn or if I just have an impinged muscle(s). So tomorrow we start passive motion. I do nothing - she moves my shoulder for me to it's extreme reaches and we'll try to get it moving again. It was a painful visit and I didn't sleep well last night. I'm not really looking forward to tomorrow...

And more good news, I can drive!! Hurray!! The mornings are often rainy so it is much nicer to be able to drive to physio as it is almost 3 miles one way. I can certainly walk it, but if it's raining I don't usually walk.

I'm going to enjoy a well deserved cup of herbal tea and relax for a while. Hubby has me going through all of my 20+ totes of craft stuff in the basement.... ugh... two hours down there this morning. I'm done!

Thanks to everyone for your comments and support, as always.

Hey Aly!!
Thanks! I heard about Private Practice on my Chiari forums so I'm downloading it right now to watch it. It's always good to see Chiari on tv, although some of the details aren't always right! But it gets the word out.

I'm doing alright, still not back to work. My shoulder is still giving me some grief. I'm in physio twice a week and have exercises at home 2 or 3 times a day as well. I might have some nerve damage in my shoulder and arm. I see the orthopaedic surgeon next week for an official diagnosis. Until then I continue walking and being a couch potato...

But I'm still shiny side up and with a lot less headaches!! So that is all that matters!!
