Spring is in the air and its that time again

What tips do you have for cleaning and airing out the house without using chemicals?

Well it is said that pollen count is highest between 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m., thus not a good time to have windows and/or doors open particularly in a bedroom. A good air filter in rooms really helps reduce pollen and dust. I don't have one for every room in my home, though do have a good one in my bedroom. No more sneezing and sniffling for me (nor watery, puffy eyes) in the a.m. when I get a good night's sleep with fresh filtered air. A good quality one is basically silent and does not interrupt sleep with noise.

Sure beats taking those miserable antihistamines that dry out the eyes and mouth and leave one feeling miserable all day, simply to stop the watering eyes and sneezing which doesn't even always work.

I would love to get an air filter! We live on a gravel road and oh boy does my house get dusty! I start to gag when I see all the dust floating in the air knowing I'm breathing that in!!

When you get ready to purchase an air filter, buy one that has a filter that you can clean yourself. The lesser expensive ones require frequent filter replacements at about $45 each. Ugh!

I purchased my air filter from Sharper Image, which I think now is no longer in business. However, I'm sure these same room air filters are available other places. The filter is chrome and you just wipe the dust off with a soft damp cloth. If there is anything 'sticky' on it, you can even take it to the bathtub and run it under running water, let it dry before re-installing, or even use a hair dryer on it. What you pay for the unit upfront saves lots of money in the end replacing paper filters every month.

Just Google 'room air filters' and you will no doubt finds lots to choose from.

I know what you mean about dirt roads. I have a gravel drive on the side of my house, and that raises lots of dust too! Even beyond that we have LOTS of pollen here from pine and oak trees every spring. The dust on the deck and patio looks totally orange... I'm forever blowing this off and hosing down to keep the pollen settled and forced into the ground.

I do hope you are having some pleasant weather this week... we are here in California, though will be back to winter weather... cold, windy and rainy... next week.

Last week was wonderful sunny and warm woke up Sunday to snow on the ground and it's still cold.Blah!
Shouldn't expect much though it is only March

Hoping to get an air filter this year or next,we also burn wood so it's always dusty here no matter the season!

Oh well ...stay warm!!

I have always enjoyed Dr. Weil... even better than Heloise Hints! I agree with Gerikat that you have posted a GREAT alternative to harsh product cleaning. These are beneficial alternatives which make housekeeping easier, less costly, and far more healthy for our environment.

Thank you for sharing!
