I was offered a CNA (certified nursing assistant) at a Nursing home today owned by a Hospital. Which is great, since I'll have more oppt. for further training. I'll start next week after my drug screening, physical exam and blood work is completed.
Not sure about joining the working force again, but my IBS is under control. The hours are only part time too.

Wow! Good for you! It is always nice to go to a place that will train you while you work. And part-time is a good way to get back into it. Congratulations! You will be in my thoughts!

Good for you!! Part time is great! Gets you out of the house, keeps your mind of IBS and you get to see other people. Isn't it nice when you get to the point where your IBS is under control. congratulations!! To others reading this, you CAN get to this point in your life as well, when your IBS in under control, and you have your life back!! Sue

Congratulations, Barbara! You'll like working for the nursing home (if it's a nice one). My hubby works part-time for a nursing home, and he likes it a lot because all the patients are SOOOO appreciative; they just ADORE him, and he babies them something fierce. I watched him once, and it was real cute how they hung onto his arm while he walked them.

I hope you're a patient person -- you must be or they wouldn't have hired you -- good for you! I'm real happy for you. I'll bet you'll be so busy you won't have time to think about your IBS.

CONGRATULATIONS! This really WILL be a Happy New Year for you!

That is terrific...............great it's part time. If you've ever pulled those 12 hr. shifts at a nursing home you'd end up beat. And great it's connected to the hospital. Maybe over time you can get on there. From what I understand the patient load is usually lower at the hospitals, or is it the same where you'll be???

I have a close friend that is a CNA. Has been for many years..smart as a whip and could have gone as far as hosp. administrator................but chose to work one on one with the patients..............

Got your gate belt ready to go?????

I was wondering how you would cope with your ibs on the job. BY THE WAY CONGRATS! PARTTIME will give you time to deal with it though and if you are more or less under control thst is a big+ for you too. I am hesitant to go out in th wf as well. A home base business would suit me better, maybe some kind of computer work.

Best of luck with the new job. When do you start? Parttime is definitely best with kids. Just curious what IBS under control means. It sounds like a dumb question when I write it, but the best person to ask is someone who has the same symptoms. My symptoms are better, but I don't know if I can say they are under control since I still have frequent attacks.
Let us know how the job goes.

Maybe if we just stay stewed we won't mind the bibs and diapers. (You and your "Jack" and me and my Damiani!)You know, dah....ling, they DO allow booze in those places now. I used to get them to bring my mom her vino nightly. And then there is a push to get private, off limits, lockable rooms where the inmates of different sexes can get "better aquainted" if they so desire..................Honest, it's true!!

I don't get power surges any more being on the "-mones", how 'bout you? But I do take my tiny portable fan with me when I travel......gotta have that moving air. Sheesh, what a case I am.

So Ms. Andrews, you gonna lead the sing-a-longs in the activities room at the "home"? Better practice on you belting out, "THE HILL ARE ALIVE...."...........that or get them all to turn their hearing aids up.

Joan my IBS is really under control - meaning I don't deal with many attacks anymore. A few months ago I had a bad spell and it was diffcult to stablize, but I did.

I'm so careful about what I eat and honestly when I decided to give up dairy it was a hugh relief for me. Since I'm not lactose intol. I felt I could still drink dairy. It turns out I'm sensitive to whey or casein.

I start next week working PM shifts until another shift opens. In a two week peroid I'll be working five evenings.

Yes I'm a very patience person. My 7 year old is ADHD and I've learned to be patient.

That is good to know your hubby works in a Nursing Home and enjoys it. The Nursing Home I'll be working for is a nice one. I did my Clinicals at this one in October and really enjoyed my time with the Elderly people. Some of them are so sweet!!! Two of the nice ones died after Thanksgiving in the unit I worked in and that was sad to hear yesterday.

This a career move for me until I get into my RN program at school. In the mean time I plan to learn as much as I can.

Yes Kandee I have my Gate Belt ready!!!

My plan is to work for the hospital, but I have to have CNA experience at the Nursing Home first. The hospital offers classes and my goal is to become a CNA Tech. while waiting to get into Nursing School.

My patient load will be 6 - 8 patients.

Krazee, DAH-LING, tell me how beautiful the weather is down there, won't you? Go ahead, I can take it.

IT'S FREEZING UP HERE! I swore when we moved here from HOT KAHLIFORNIA I'd never complain of the weather! After all, now, when I get a hot flash, all I have to do is step outside for a second. Well, Girlfriend, I wouldn't dare step outside for a NANO-second now! -- I wouldn't be able to get back inside! It's that damned arctic air blowing down from Canada! Honestly, I've never been so cold in my life.

So go ahead, DAH-ling, tell me -- it's beautiful down there, ain't it? Damn. I've been up here for 3 years now, and this is the first time I've regretted it. Hubby slipped on the ice yesterday and landed on his elbow and head. I almost slipped, but slid my way to the gym instead of walking, and I made it with no mishap. VERY scary, DAH-LING!

What's "Damiani"? Is that sweet stuff? What a wuus.

"Just curious what IBS under control means" is not a dumb question at all! I'm amazed any of you can work at all with IBS. I had a great job, working with great people who cared about me and who I liked -- but the IBS was my undoing; I couldn't keep calling in sick. All of you out there who can work with this AMAZE me!

Bev you poor thing!!! I was born and raised in WI and grew up a Farm. It didn't matter how cold it was we still had to get up and take care of those animals. Brrrrrrrrr!!! And I'm still not use to cold weather.

We lived in TX for three years and this is our third winter back in WI and my husband and I still ask each other why did we moved back to WI? So what if it gets up to 100 degrees for weeks at a time - it is still easier to cool off than to warm up.

Oooh, yeah. I forgot. That IS the downside of working for a nursing home. There's a daily visit from the local ambulance service. You have to put up a sort of hard shell so as not to dwell on it.

Bev if I suffered with D I couldn't work either. I have the opposite problem. The number one draw back for me was the pain it caused after 7 days of no BM. If I go every other day I'm thrilled and I'm not C anymore, which means no pain with the BM. If I do have dairy products it will start the C cycle again.

I LOVE WI...used to spend all my summers in northern MN......but NOT ever in the winter. I grew up in Phx, AZ where it's hot, hot, hot!!!

Spent some time in TX but oh the humidity.........Think I like CA better. I have to go to Austin when I want to visit my daughter and enjoy it but never more than a week at a time and not in the summer.

Barb, I SO admire you and your taking on the new job and going after your RN, and raising your boys....
You must be very calm and caring to raise one with ADHD...and now work in a nursing home. I have a grandson that is ADHD....comes to visit in the summer from FL. Drives us nuts if not on "his pill"........if I had him long enuf at one time I'd try on a gluten free diet.

Once you start your new job and studies you're not going to have much time for these boards, but know that you are in our thoughts and we wish you all the best on this journey to a new career!!!!

Where in CA did you live that it was so hot....Blythe? Needles? Death Valley?

Not so warm here this past week. Low 20 High 45. I haven't been out in over a week since flattened with a bad cold I got from Xmas company. But today, now at 10 AM it is 60.....time to jump in the pool?

We love Palm Springs (a 1 hr. 40 min. drive away) and are down there once a month from the high desert........3,000 ft. elevation. Would live in PS if it weren't for the fact you need a swiming pool in your living room to survive and a pot holder to open your car doors in the summer...

But, this IBS has left me nuts............cold all the time, likely because I'm much thinner and consume very little fats, and am a hypothyroid (messed up body temp regulators) so maybe living in an even warmer climit now wouldn't be such a bad idea......

Sorry the northwest is taking such a hit with your cold spell....................get out the earmuffs and the iceskates so you can get around!!! No, honestly, at our age breaking bones is not fun so be SUPER careful!!!

Blythe, Needles, Death Valley! Kandee, you're a RIOT! I SOOOO love your sense of humor! You're my kind of crazy gal!

I'm feeling very sheepish now about answering your question -- you won't believe it. Okay, so I'm a wuus. No way could I tolerate your neck of the woods. I lived in the SF Bay area for 35 years, the last 23 in Santa Rosa. Okay, okay. I can hear you now!

My brother worked at JPL, so I spent a lot of time down there. GROAN. There's no way I could stand it -- how do you? Palm Springs?!? OMG!!! My brother's mother-in-law lived in Mesa, Arizona, and I went down there to visit her once. You know you gotta jog in the very early a.m. there -- way before the sun comes out -- or you'll faint!

Okay, so I feel better now. This freezing cold doesn't seem so bad after all! Maybe I just needed to vent a little.

Bye, Dah-ling! Regards to Arnold.

I believe, for the most part, my IBS-D is under control right now, too (knock on wood). But it has been a long road to get here. Thankfully, I work at a very understanding and accomodating yet flexible job. There were many, many times at first when I had to call in sick or come in late or leave early. I cried many tears and was on my last nerve. Now, I think my IBS-D has become more towards IBS-C for some reason. I haven't had to take Imodium in about a month. I used to take it three or four days a week. For me, I had to just figure out what worked for my situation and go from there. Looking back....I think I have dealt with IBS-D and C for most of my life....yet only diagnosed about 5 years ago.

I've noticed that my D has become more of a C problem now. Which I don't really mind because I don't have those sudden trips to the restroom when I am shopping or at work, etc. But, the downside is the painful BMs and lower back pain. What is the best way to deal with that? I know...I haven't been taking my fiber like I should and I have been eating some of the wrong things. I've been a bad girl But I'd much rather have this than the terrible D I was having. I don't know why I am now becoming an IBS-C.

That's great! My mom has a job interview soon to move up to a better department at her company. She works for Lincoln Insurance, and works in the customer service department. It's going ballistic there since they're been firing people right and left. My mom's job right now is pretty much secure, as is the job that she'll be interviewed for. However, we still need to hope and pray that everything turns out alright! ANY job is better than the one she has now!!
Congrats, Barbara!!!!!!

Wait! Why are we gonna lose Barb on the boards? I didn't know that -- is she going away from us? I don't think so. We just won't have it!

Ruchie and Bev you are too sweet!!!!! You sure made my day.

You won't lose me - I just won't be checking in as often. School starts tomorrow and I'll be starting work Thursday (maybe?) Between Anatomy and medical terminology I'll need to check the IBS board to "unfry" my brain.

Thanks again for being so sweet. Besides I'll miss not guessing the What Is It question. Tuesday and Thursday will be my two days home and I miss not trying to beat Shell. LOL
