So, did any of the rest of you reading the book, finish it yet? I just did, and wow what a read. It took me awhile, but I so respect Sarno and his view. Combine him with a little of Chopra and others like him, and it's a win-win situation. Combine a little of the old with a little of the new.

Gerikat - I have not finished it yet, but I am close. Do you still want to have a discussion group at the Ning site you set up?

Well, I am just not going to have the time right now to moderate a site. I have alot on my plate at this time.

I was hoping we could discuss it here, without having others jump in with the science behind it, and knocking Sarno every chance they get. Especially when these folks have not even read the book from cover to cover, but pick bits and pieces out, so they can dis Sarno.

Maybe we can discuss it here...we will have to see.

I do think there is a REAL NEED for a book review category at this website. It's not only the book you cite, but others as well.

It seems such would be justified for those who like to read and learn in their own quiet time away from their computers. I personally get tired and weary from screen reading. I would rather read a book, pick it up, and put it down, and continue on as I have (or can make) the time.

I think we could probably discuss books here. I think an alternative/holistic medicine board would be great.
Then you could get people who use this kind of treatment away from the science minded. Know what I mean.
What do you think? I know they are trying to get a vegetarian board together.

YEP! Gerikat, I absolutely DO know what you mean about all of this scientific stuff. What we all need is less stress and a more relaxed and supportive, meaningful environment.

I think a board of holistic and vegetarian info would be absolutely GREAT! While I'm not (yet) totally vegetarian, I can definitely see the benefits of becoming so.

While I have been avoiding red meat (known trigger), I still eat chicken, turkey, and sometimes a small amount of white pork. It's a good thing that I absolutely love bean and rice recipes.

May your Thanksgiving be blessed as well as your Christmas holiday celebrations.

I also just finished the book and would love to discuss it(or other books) outside of this site. It would be easier to keep up a conversation if it wasn't buried among all the other threads on here.
Maybe we could start an email chain?

I would be willing to moderate a Ning site - we have the options for both forum discussion and live chat (among other things). Anybody interested in that?

I was trying to set something up on Ning, but I just don't have the time now to moderate. It is nice because you can have instant chat. And you wouldn't be interrupted there.

My email is frygurl@gmail.com. We can have a live chat and also have forum style discussions.

Well Gerikat, I haven't finished the book. I just received my copy on Friday. However, I am 1/3 of the way through this book and can already see so much in myself and other family members. I'm finding it difficult to put this book down. Good thing it is raining outside here.

I'm finding hope that some day I will indeed overcome treating symptoms (only), and actually have more psychosomatic control over my physical health in general. I can also clearly see just how far back the IBS roots in me went... about age 5!

This adventure is going to be very interesting, though I am willing and able to meet such a challenge!

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who seriously would like to go from merely treating symptoms to eliminating them altogether.

Even so, we all need good healthy fiber in our bodies given the quality of today's foods, tea is excellent, and so are healthy low fat recipes! This doesn't mean we can or should go back to fast foods and eating bugo fats. We do need to stay conscious of it all for optimum health.

What is the matter with doctors today? I rather suspect it is all about money... run 'em in and run 'em out... cashing in on each patient visit.

I believe you two are reading The Divided Mind by John Sarno. Gerikat and I have formed a discussion group on a Ning site to discuss the book without disruption from naysayers. If you are interested in joining the group, please email me at frygurl@gmail.com and I will send you an invitation.

If anyone else who reads this is interested in the theories of Dr. Sarno or other alternative health treatments, you are also invited to join our discussion. Please email me.

I've had this book on my shelf for a year and haven't opened it! I got it as a gift, I like the subject matter but I'm not a big fan of Sarno after reading his back book, and hearing him interviewed. You guys are inspiring me to read though - I'm going to start it this week - Thanks!

What didn't you like about Sarno's back book? I haven't read it myself, but I'm guessing there is a lot of similar information in the Divided Mind.

Wow - I finished the Divided Mind. This book is truly life changing. I hope others will read it, because I think Dr. Sarno's theories have a lot of implications for IBS sufferers. A discussion group is forming on a Ning site - if you're interested in alternative medical views of IBS, and/or are interested in Dr. Sarno's views on psychosomatic disorders, please email me to join. frygurl@gmail.com
