I wore shoes for the first time today since I dislocated my right ankle! Somehow, taking granny steps on the carpet with socks seemed more stable before. But this time I managed to put on a pair of shoes and keep them on for an hour or so and it felt ok.

Question: Why is my skin peeling on the ankle? The skin was fine when I had the injury... Why now that it's healing, is the skin of all things peeling? Picture the aftermath of a bad sunburn.

Doesn't hurt, but I'm confused.

Hey Nelly, that's great news!!

Baby steps!! Or granny steps as you put it!
Your skin is peeling likely because your ankle was swollen for a long period of time and the skin stretched. Now that your swelling has gone down the stretched cells have nothing to do but die and sluff off. (Ugh I know.) I have had 2 foot surgeries and both times I had brand new skin after 3 or 4 weeks post op. Nice for summer sandals, but not great because I found new skin calloused up much easier.

Soak your foot in a bath and gently exfoliate then follow up with a heavy moisturizer and a pair of socks to lock it in.

Good luck and happy walking!!
