Today I was able to buy Heathers book on the first year and I am so excited to read this book. I have a question about my IBS. I am wondering as I am reading the book and having read others experiences if anyone has the pain I have. You see I don't have triggers that come during eating or even right after. I can have that if I were to eat hashbrowns after eating out or I remember eating a very greasy steak and I could not finish the meal and spent a lot of time in the bathroom but even then the pain was nothing ilke it is now. You see I can go all day long maybe having a small belly ache and then I will go to bed and wake up in the morning and BOOM there it is. The only way I can explain the pain is to be graphic. It's like I get this horrible pain almost like a contraction and that contraction is what pushes the stool out of me and I let out a bunch of stool and then the pain goes away and then the contraction will come back again and there is more stool, this will go on some times for over an hour and Oh the pain is horrible. Towards the end It's more so loose stool and the pain is gone. I am wondering if any of you have gone through this??? I usually have discomfort daily but since I stopped eating the insoluble fibers it seems to have helped plus I am taking fibercon now 3 times a day. It's just I tried to tell my doctor the pain is only like that when I use the bathroom and it's not often I thought I may be constipated and that could be why it happens, I fill myself up and then there's the contractions. I hope I made sense because I need to know if I am not feeling a normal affect of IBS. I had that flexible sig test and the specialist agreed I had IBS. Thanks for listening Jenn

Jenn, your description sounds like the kind of attacks I get when I've been very bad with my diet. Although I've never had contractions, I'm usually "doubled over" with pain. The first few BMs are fairly normal, then it's diarrhea from then on. (My IBS is the "D" variety.) The BMs relieve the cramps, but only somewhat, and only temporarily. And it's always in the morning, seldom before bed.
My attacks became a LOT fewer when I cut out the insolubles, like you -- but we have to add them back in; it's really important. For me, at least right now, I've found that cooking veggies in soup is the answer. Even the cabbage soup and broccoli soup work for me now!
I'm really glad you got Heather's book and that you're getting a lot out of it. I don't know how much fiber is in Fibercon, but I was taking Citrucal which was WAY too low in fiber -- I am having to gradually increase it, which I have done, and which has helped a lot. You might do a search here; there's a lot in here about fiber and how much is enough.
I hope this helps, Jenn.
Bev.

I remember seeing some where on the website about how much to take. Fiber really gives me bad gas and I stay in pain for a long time so what I have done is made a little system that so far is working. I can take 3 in a day, well 1 in the morning and 2 before bed and be totally fine, no gas at all. So now I am going to take 2 in the morning and 2 at night. I don't want to over do it with the fiber supplements so I am looking more towards only 4 a day of the pills and eating high soluble foods. I am still keeping insoluble in there too, the other night I had white rice with chicken strips and soy sauce with green beans. It has been so hard staying away from the resturaunts but that dinner was better then any I could of got eating out. I am gonna get as much info as I can and get on track with this new diet. I pray this works for me like it has for others, I sure have hope that I didn't have a week ago. Take care of you Jenn

Hey Jenn!
You're doing fine with the fiber. Go slow, and as you become adjusted, you can increase your dosage.

Hi Jenn, I also get very bad pains in my stomach and it is usually gone after a BM or sometimes many BM's. Sometimes my stomach will make the most awful sounds like an earthquake and I just look down at my stomach like what the heck is going on down there! It's the kind of pain where you just can't stand up straight. I have been feeling soooooo much better after taking the advice on this website and I've also started Acacia, peppermint caps and peppermint tea. I drink lots and lots of the peppermint tea throughout the day and I feel like psychological it makes me feel like I am doing something good for my belly and it keeps me a bit calm when I am feeling anxious about what my stomach might do. Plus it's just nice to have something warm in my belly.
Anyway, sounds like your symptoms are very similiar to what lots of IBSers have. It may take a while to get to feeling better but you will.

Keep it up!!!!! My symptoms are very similar to yours when I have a bad attack!! I can sympathize-I use medication to slow down/stop the bad attacks and them start with soluble fiber. Maryh

Jenn you described my symptoms exactly. I am like that every day. I thought I was the only one with the contractions. It's good to know I'm not but I wish neither one of us had to have them. When I run to the bathroom and my honey asks me where I'm going I tell him I'm going to have a baby I'll be back in an hour. LOL

yeah that pain is horrible! That pain is the reason I have become so home bound, I have to concentrate when that happens on getting through the pain and the thought of it happening some where noisy and out of my comfort zone really freaks me out. Ever since I found this site and have been following the diet I have been feeling about 87% better, it should continue to get even better then that. I just wish I could get a grip on my stress level.
I clicked on the happy new year link and the other, That happy new year was really nice!!!!! I am not into movies all that much but nice sites!
Take care Jenn
