I don't get it! I have been stable for over 2 years and these past two weeks have been awful! I am C for 3 days and then get painful cramps and explosive D. It doesn't make sense. But then again IBS doesn't make sense. Just goes to show all of you new ones who are still struggling that IBS can come back with a vengence even when you are stable!

I'm sorry to hear this. Do you think it might be the switch to the wellbutrin, I couldn't take that one because it sent my tummy into a tizzy. Maybe the stress of the new school year? I hope you feel better soon.

I'll go for years being stable and then wham! out of the blue I'm suffering with D again...my IBS comes in cycles. Stable for a few years, bad for about a year, so on and so on....maybe this is happening to you too? Have you kept to the diet since you've been stable these past two years?

You know Michele, I thought about that but I have been taking the Wellbutrin since July and no problems. I think it might be the stress. I don't feel as relaxed on this as I did the Lexapro. I upped my dose to two a day which is what the doctor said to do. My class this year is really stressful. They are good kids, but have a lot of issues! I am so thankful I have a great teaching partner. Because she watched my room while I ran to the bathroom 5 times!!!

I have been pretty faithful to the diet. No dairy, or red meat and NEVER anything fried. I was able to tolerate a few more things when I was stable. I think I need to watch my fat intake closer and up my Acacia dosage. This is really depressing!

Ugh, hate that running to the bathroom, thank goodness for your teaching partner. We were busy this morning and I had to excuse myself 3 times while helping the same patient-I just told him I must of ate something funny. I seem to swing from one extreme to the other but I just started taking my probiotics again so hoping maybe that will help.

So, which ad have they got you on now? Didn't you just recently switch or am I a bit behind on things? Cymbalta seems to be working pretty well for me but its really expensive, even with my insurance.

Hi Michele,

I JUST started a low dose of Zoloft for anxiety reasons, however, my doc had suggested Cymbalta because it has a component that helps with pain issues. Due to seeing a pelvic pain specialist, there has been improvement over the past several months with the pelvic pain that I have. I felt more comfortable going with the Zoloft because I have read so many more positive things about it. She also has me on .5 mg of Klonopin at bed until the Zoloft kicks in. Since I have had C problems in the past I am kind of scared of Cymbalta.

I know everyone is different with AD's....but how long have you been on Cymbalta and what are your experiences?? I tried a very low dose of Lexapro in January and couldn't stand it. I was really, really wired and kept getting body twitches.

I'm sure since Cymbalta is fairly new (I think) it's probably at the high end of our insurance as well. I'm just hoping the Zoloft helps....I hate to keep switching. In a couple of weeks I'm going to be starting round 2 of the hypno tapes as well. I was doing really good for several weeks and then BAM....this replapse put my anxiety right over the deep end.

Thanks Michele.
Sharon

I just switched to the Wellbutrin in July. However I had to slowly wean myself off the Lexapro. Talk about some weird withdrawl symptoms. I have just been on the Wellbutrin since then. I know that my class this year has alot to do with it. They are very draining emotionally. I am really thinking about buying the hypnosis CD's and see if that helps. I want to start doing yoga at home. I know what I need to do to get stable again, it's just frustrating to have to start all over again!

Lets see, I started the cymbalta back in the early spring. Over the years I have been on a LOT of the different anti depressive medications. Zoloft killed my sex drive but otherwise, it was well tolerated. Wellbutrin, I had taken a few years back and don't remember any issues with it than but looking back my IBS was super bad than. I had tried the wellbutrin before the cymablta this year and it KILLED my tummy. Not so much C or D, just a lot of pain. I tried prozac at one time and that made me just a stupid, drooling zombie! My favorite was actually the lexapro and I enjoyed many years on that.

Because of the disease I have, called sarcoidosis, I now have a problem with my heart and a lot of the anti depressive medications are contraindicated so I have few options. But, the cymbalta does seem to be working ok. I think it has help with my pain (sarcoidosis and neuropathy) and it seems to keep my depression in check. I also take a sedative at night, xanax and trazadone. I still don't have any sex drive but I think thats more my sarcoidosis and less of the cymbalta.

I used to be a chronic C person. Than, a few years back went to a total D. I went from taking miralax at least once a day to taking immodium twice a day! Crazy! I have no idea why or any explanation for it. I am now both. I seem to go a few days without going than seem to go endlessly for days. I know C is listed as a side effect from the cymbalta but I can't really say if its had that effect on me or not. Overall, I think cymbalta is definitely worth a try, especially if you have pain issues. I started on 30mg for one month than moved up to the standard 60mg a day. I had about a week of weirdness adjusting in the beginning but now, I seem to tolerate it just fine.
