Possible Cure?

OK...I know this sounds too good to be true....and I know some of us here have jumped on the wagon to cut sweets and sugar out of our diet...but I have been eating something since Monday that I believe may be helping my IBS-D.

A few years ago I used to eat a cup of TCBY frozen yogurt every evening (I bought it by the quart) and my IBS-D was fairly stable when I did that. But it got pretty expensive so I quit. Well, the other day I got hungry for TCBY. I thought that maybe I shouldn't try it with the way my stomach has been lately, but I decided to do it anyway. So I went and bought a quart and every evening since Monday I have had a cup of it in the evening...and I haven't used Imodium all week. I don't know if there is actually something in it that is helping, or what...but I do feel better when I eat it regularly.

Could the kind you are eating have the probiotics that yogurt has?

If it works, go with it I'm guessing it's a combo of a few things...probiotics in yogurt, calcium, and the relaxing effect it probably has on you...comfort food that worked for you in the past and doesn't cause anxiety. Anything that reduces stress is helpful. Enjoy your yogurt! I haven't had tcby in years. It's so good.

To be honest I always questioned the "yogurt part" in frozen yogurt. I always thought that it's just a low-fat ice cream flavored with yogurt so that people would feel better about eating it! I actually used to love it, though!

However, I could see how it could help you with D. It's usually lower in fat than regular ice-cream so you don't have to worry about fat being the trigger. It's still a kind of dairy. Dairy contains opioid peptides which in adults affect the GI tract and slow down motility. Through trial and error I think I'm pretty sure that dairy constipates me (not good since I'm already a C). Plus, there's also the calcium part as mentioned above.

I'm happy for you that you found something that seems to work!

You're funny Fancy! I think today I'm making up for lost time in the bathroom during the week. I've spent a lot of time in the bathroom this morning. It's not D, though...just a lot of pooping! Sorry for the details. I've had a few salads during the week, too...along with the TCBY. But still no Imodium for D! I took a couple this morning to slow the pooping urgency down as a precaution because my mother and I are planning on going to a movie this afternoon. Didn't want to be in the bathroom during the movie. Ya know...

Zara...thanks for the info. I'm mostly D, so maybe the calcium is having a positive effect on me. I'm also taking probiotics.

Definitely don't want to have to take poop breaks during Kevin Costner movies. That's just wrong!!

Maybe the TCBY's are catching up with you?? Hope not!

Just FYI...for all who "can" eat ice cream... WW has fudge brownie cups ...1.5g fat, 140 cal..... BUT... 7 GRAMS FIBER!
When I'm doing "good" - if I eat that at nighttime - all that fiber helps the next morning - if you know what I mean, girlies!
