I have been trying to get pregnant for over a year now. I found out that I had an extremely large cyst on my left ovary and had surgery to remove it. My periods are regular every 28 days. I have been on clomid off and on per my doctor. I have been tested for hormone changes and everything is ok. I have also been tested to be sure that I am ovulating (which I am now that the huge cyst is gone). However, I still can't get pregnant. I am not stressed until it's time to see if I am pregnant or not, and then I am a basket case! Any suggestions? Also, I have IBS with diarrhea. This usually only flares up right before my cycle is supposed to start every month. Does anybody know if this has any connection? Can having IBS affect my ability to get pregnant? Nobody I have spoken to thus far has an answer for me. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I am 29, but I wanted kids by now. Thanks for listening, hope somebody can help!

Hey TKL. Welcome!

Can I ask you a few questions? If you don't want to answer them, it's ok. I understand they are kinda personal.

How long ago was the surgery? How long have you been trying to get pregnant? How have you been "timing" your tries? Can you physically tell when your ovulating? How?

Sorry for all the personal questions, but I do know quite a bit on this subject (sometimes too much), so I just need a little more info before I can help.

BTW - IBS should not affect your ability to get pregnant.

Thanks -

I also had an ovarian cyst removed, about ten years ago. I'm now 29 and hubby and I spent 8 months trying to get pregnant, w/o fertility drugs. I'm now 19 weeks pg. IBS had no effect on that. I did use ovulation prediction kits because my cycle was so irregular. What's funny is that the month I finally got pregnant was the month I gave up and stopped taking the ovulation tests! I've heard similar stories from other women. I sometimes think that monitoring your ovulation so closely causes a lot of stress and anxiety, which can certainly inhibit your ability to conceive. You may not think you are stressed, but your body may feel differently. I didn't believe that at first, but eventually I did.

Has your husband's sperm been tested? Perhaps chlomid is not the right treatment for you. Are you seeing a fertility doctor, or just an OBGYN? I would be seeing a specialist if I were you.

Being stressed about trying to get pregnant will definately affect when it happens. With ALL five of my pregnacies,as soon as we stopped trying so hard,It happened.I have three sucessful pregnancies and my daughter was born five years after my IBSd flared.
I have a girlfriend who seemed to get pregnant just by looking at her husband and that was very frustrating for me.
Try hard not to think about when you want to get pregnant and just relax. If it happens and it will then that will be the right time for you and your body.
By the way,my girlfriend just had her fourth at 35 ten years after her last!SURPRISE!!!
Good luck to you!

I've tried clomid, IUI, and finally conceived my beautiful daughter through IVF. I would recommend seeing a fertility specialist. Both you AND DH need to be checked out. Male factor is the cause half of the time. But we focus so much on the woman. Unfortunately for us we have both male and female infertility issues. Instead of getting stressed and wondering I would see an RE to get all checked out. Then you know. Good luck. I know all too well the frustration and pain of wanting to get pg and not being able to. Feel free to ask any questions about fertility stuff if you have them. And you can search my old posts...they talk about my whole journey and the different methods/meds we tried.
