I know that there are alot of new faces on the boards. I am one of the "oldies" but haven't posted in awhile. I was just wondering if anyone has had problems switching their AD medication. I have decided to go off of Lexapro which I have been on for over a year and switcht o Wellbutrin. Part of the reason was my libido has been greatly affected due to the Lexapro. It has been great for my IBS but my marriage is just as important. Anyways I started taking the Wellbutrin 3 weeks ago just once a day while still taking my Lexapro 10mg. Then the next week I went to half a pill of the Lexapro with the Wellbutrin. Then the 3rd week just took the Wellbutrin. Well 2 days ago was about the 5th day off the Lexapro completely and oh my god I thought I was in another world! I was zoned, shaky, nausea, pounding headache, and just felt overall crappy. The same thing happened yesterday so I called my doctor. He told me that is "normal" withdrawl and to go back on the Lexapro 1/2 tablet for a week and then do every other day for a week and see how it works.
Ok... fine but holy crap I did not like feeling the way I did the last two days. Especially with my two little ones at home. I did a search about Lexapro withdrawl symptoms and let's just say all the things I found were not very pleasant. Last night I could not sleep and tossed and turned all night with night sweats. I just wanted to vent a bit and see if anyone else has similar experiences. Thanks...

I haven't taken any ibs or ad meds but I went through withdrawl from morphine and Dilaudid. It was hell. Make sure you wean yourself off SLOWLY! the reason I won't take any more meds is because of my fear of the withdrawls again. I can truly understand why drug addicts jump back into drugs and have such a hard time getting off them.I was messed up for 2 and a half weeks.I thought I was going to die.

Wow. That sounds aweful!! Hopefully when you start up with the 1/2 pill a day, then every other day that will help with the withdrawal symptoms. I know how it is to need to function during the day for your little ones!!

Good Luck!

Hi Angela!! I was on lexapro for a long time as well. I went into forced withdrawal while in the hospital last year. I tried the Wellbutrin but it made my IBS worse. Ugh. I am limited to which ones I can take now because of the heart condition I have but have finally settled in ok with cymbalta but my sex life is suffering!

I just heard on the news this morning on TV that viagra is supposed to help with this problem. I guess it helps more with ah, finishing shall we say rather than put us into the mood.

Who knows, I do know I am tired of having to take medications than having to take more medications to treat the side effects from the first medication!

Taking it one day at a time.....

Yeah I will definatley take it more slowly. It's funny but I said about the same thing to my husband last night about drug addicts. I told him that I couldn't imagine going through withdrawl if I was a cocaine or heroine addict! It was bad enough with the Lexapro!

Fancymom-
Thanks for the support. It was scary with my kids at home. I seriously didn't think I could function well enough to be at home with them. Thank goodness my parents just live down the road!

Michele,
I have loved the Lexapro for my IBS the past year. It has made me much more calm and I have been able to eat things I normally couldn't. I had no trouble getting into the mood with hubby, but like you said I didn't quite finish the job! So since we are going to the Bahamas in a few weeks for our 10 year anniversary I thougt it was time to do something. So I talked with my doctor and he said switch to Wellbutrin because there is very little sexual side effects. It has helped so far but the withdrawl from the Lexapro is scary! I hope going back on it and weaning off it more slowly works better.

I had just about the same reaction when I went off of Effexor and onto Wellbutrin. The side effects from the Wellbutrin were so bad, my doc had me stop all AD meds cold turkey so that I could just get it out of my system. The Effexor withdrawal was AWFUL! I was dizzy and nauseous and got migraines. So I know exactly what you are talking about! Hope you feel better soon.

I read the same thing in the newspaper about the Viagra. It sounded promising but do you know how expensive it is? It costs something like $15 for one little pill and that's WITH a prescription. It's crazy what these drug companies charge! $15 doesn't sound like a lot but when you start adding up all those little bluebabies they get expensive.
