Has anyone read "Eating for Your Blood Type"? Interesting in knowing if there are many with Blood Type A in this group? Especially since people with this particular blood type are typified as having more stomach distress/syndromes/illnesses.... According to all the books I've read regarding this, Blood Type A is the newest of all blood types - the "agrarian - farmer", typically European descent, while Type "O" is the oldest..."hunter and meat eater".... Just interested in the comparison...
Needless to say, I am Type A.

I'm Type A. What does the book recommend that type A's avoid?

Cool!! LOTS of Type A's. Actually, I'm a Type 0, BUT...I know that book like the back of my hand!!!!! I first read it about 5 years ago. It's WONDERFUL!

Says Type A's do best on a vegetarian diet. Soy is the best protein and milk for ya'll. Eat LOTS of veggies and fruits and NO red meat or dairy!! No wheat/gluten either.

My husband is a Type A, so I have read all about it!

I just read that as an O I do best with meat, green leafy vegetables, broccoli etc.
I actually can't do this.too much meat or green veggies flare up my IbSd. so what does that mean?
Have any of you A's tried eating for your blood type?

Fancymom - Opposites must truly attract since my DH and I are the opposite of y'all...He's "O" and I'm "A"! LOL...
It's kind of like my kids at the school where I work in the guidance department, most of them are ESE, with emotional/behavioral disabilities...after 20 years doing this, if I had the money to write a grant, I think I could prove they all have allergies - it's all the mind/body/gut(other mind) connection. Anyway, as for the book, I've read it, put it away, re-read it...I just vascillate because I've had it ingrained in me for years not to eat pasta or bread becauses of the candidasis, but that's what Type A's are supposed to eat and I seem to do better eating all the SF foods Heather recommends - bagels and applesauce are my staples. Basically, I believe he's right - I just have to get my mind set. It's hard when you can't eat this because of diverticulosis, you can't eat that because of the candidiasis, plus no nightshade veggies, almost no fat - now add on-going dental surgery (difficult chewing)! Woo-Hoo! BUT...I think after many of the posts I've read on here, many people already follow the basic Type A diet - as you said, soy for protein, maybe one egg a week and chicken once a week...certain veggies, pastas,breads...The doctor who wrote it is Type A and his wife is Type O! It's quite an interesting book in that he explains why not to eat certain vegetables too. I haven't tried tofu - so if anyone has any suggestions, I "think" I'm open!

Ha ha - I have no idea what my blood type is - I'll have to remember to ask my doctor when I see her next. But I'm laughing because I'm definitely a Type A personality, and I'd hazard a guess that most people on this board would describe themselves that way. I'd imagine most Type B'ers would have a tougher time internalizing stress in their digestive systems!

Well, like you, I'm a Type 0+ and I have tried following the book and felt MUCH better on his diet! Only thing he says that I should eat, but I cannot tolerate is red meat. It tears me up! But, he says for Type 0's, no dairy, wheat, and sugar should be more of a "condiment" not a "staple." I do great on the diet, other than red meat.

Also, he says for me to avoid cinnamon, which interestingly, I have always had a problem with it! Wierd.

Another type A here! I haven't read the Blood type diet book but I do remember reading once that type A's should follow a more vegetarian diet and avoid dairy. I thought that was pretty interesting. Here's what's more interesting: I have lost the most weight on Heather's diet than I have on any other diet - I've tried low-carb, low-sugar, general low-calorie, and even working out religiously. But when I started Heather's diet, the pounds started falling off (25 lbs since last November!), and I haven't even been trying to lose weight! It makes me wonder if there actually is something to that blood type diet.

--------------------
IBS-A since age 12, and fructose sensitive; with the exception of my pregnancy, have been following Heather's diet since Nov. 19, 2007.
Taking 12g of Acacia per day. Relatively stable since March 2008!

You are right, the Blood Type Diet for A is almost totally vegetarian, maybe 1 egg a week or chicken/fish a couple times a week - he recommends lots of soy, which I can't do, but he also recommends lots of veggies and pastas/breads/rice....Can you tell me, in general, what you eat... The SF calms my stomach but seems to cause "C" - since you are "C" too, what do you do - do you take supplements??? I'm tired of wondering if I'm going to "go" today! Thanks!

Where do you find this book?I'm interested.anything that might work eh.
I am also going to try the food combining theory.I have all the books and a recipe book so I think I might take a few days next week and plan out our meals. It just takes alot of effort I think.
My whole family is o- so the eating for your blood type would work for all of us.

It would be interesting to find out if I'm Type A. I've never known what type I am. How do I find out? Do I just request it from my doc?

If you have had blood work done then they should have it on your file.I didn't know either until my second pregnacy and had been reading about a shot you have to get .Something about a vs b non compatable anyway...I found out I was o- so is my hubby and so all our kids will also be o-.Just ask and they should be able to tell you without anymore tests

There are several on the market, but I think the "father" of this principal/science is the best... Dr. Peter D'Adamo, "Eat Right 4 Your Type"...I've had all his books at one time or another. But, this one is very concise, for all blood types and gives recipes, even tells about your personality type and predisposition to illnesses/diseases.
He also has "mini books" - for each specific blood type, almost like pocket size to carry with you shopping - or when you are at work and planning your list.... It think we just search and study and glean what we need to know. I don't know of one book that is the "Bible for IBS" - who knows maybe we will all collaborate on one some day, when we are all stable, and be millionaires! I just haven't found the right combination yet!

Neet....
How does the Miralax affect you? Any cramping when you take it? In the past any laxatives or stool softeners have caused such terrible cramping and still not able to go - I've tried to just wait it out... I may try the Miralax or the Fibercon, Fancymom takes....
Thanks, Girls!
