I joined this board a few years ago and haven't posted in a long time. But I have some questions and this board was always such a supportive place.
I just started taking Zyprexa for major depression on Tuesday and my IBS symptoms have come back with a vengeance! I've been good for years (with a few episodes that I brought on myself by not following the rules). In the last few days it has been way out of control! First I had C, so I upped my magnesium supplement to 500mg. This should have been a good thing. As it is I usually only take half of what I should for migraine headaches (250mg) because even with calcium it is normally too irritating. But then I had horrible bloating and still C. Now I've swung the other way, but I'm still bloated. I haven't changed my diet, which has kept me symptom free for years and I'm exercising as usual. I know about the weight gain/diabetes risks from Zyprexa and I'll probably only be on the med until I'm stable enough to switch back to a regular SSRI. But it's awfully discouraging facing IBS-C and D, combined with the risk of weight gain. It makes me not want to eat anything (obviously, bad idea!). Has anyone had these problems with Zyprexa and how did you deal with them?

I suffer from depression and had a major depressive episode this past fall. Zyprexa made me gain 20 pounds in 5 weeks so be really careful. It didn't affect my tummy as bad as it is yours but I have tried many antidepressants and a lot of them do bother my iBS. I am currently on Cymbalta and that has me C again so I am back on miralax to keep things moving.

Its so frustrating when you need a medication to help you with something but than the side effects are as bad as whatever it is you are taking the medication for!
