My C has gotten so bad with this pregnancy...so much worse. Prenatals and extra calcium haven't helped. I panicked when they told me my iron was down but they said if I took some extra C with my vitamins could help to maximize the amount of iron I get out of the vitamins so I won't have to take an iron supplement.

So anyway, I've had to take 6 heaping tablespoons of Benefiber, 2 Fibercon a at lunch and 4 Colace throughout the day! Of course, that's in addition to the insoluable fiber I get naturally in my diet. And finallllllly I'm going. Obviously I'll have to re-adjust the amounts after baby's born but in the meantime, it's just good to get things moving without too much pain.

Just seems like it's an awful lot. Doesn't it?

Hanging out at home today with my son (11) who just had oral surgery --4 teeth pulled this a.m. Poor guy!

Hey there,

Sorry to hear of your pregnancy woes. Thought I would let you know, I've heard & tried Prune juice for my C, & it works! I know you need something without chemicals because you're pregnant, so I thought you could use this info maybe. hope it helps!

one comment- benefiber was never nearly as effective as the equivelant amount of fiber in acacia for me... I could take it in twice the dose...not amount- remember acacia is more concentrated too... that might help you some.. though right now I am all out of whack.. no BM in 3 days and a ton of gas...mbut I'm sure thats surgery/med related and I'll post sepereately on the diet board for help...

I bought some acacia but it smelled funny so I never used it. I don't know if it was the jar I put it in and then it picked up the smell or what but I'm VERY sensitive to smells so I couldn't use it. Besides I have plenty of the Benefiber (old formula) stocked up so I'm good to go for awhile.

it does absorb stuff from around it- so scent would be part of that too... reminds me, I need to get more out- I buy it from 2 sources, though mostly its from heather... I still have some left from exotic nutrition (our Sugar Gliders get it too!)

Calcium is known to cause C so I'm not sure what you mean by this...?

Have you tried Natural Calm for C? They make a formulation for expectant mothers.

Ahhh, my phrasing was a little weird. Gotta love the internet. I know the prenatals and calcium cause C but I have to take them. So, when I say they haven't helped, it was simply my way of saying, they make it worse....not that I thought they'd be helpful.

Nope haven't tried Natural Calm. Is that safe to take in pregnancy?

I figured it was something like that!

The natural calm should be fine for you; like I said there's a formulation especially for pregnant women. It's just a magnesium citrate supplement. Works wonders for C!! I take it every night.

I used Natural Calm Mama occasionally throughout my pregnancy. I also used Dulcolax (dr. said it was ok).

I'm using Metamucil wafers (6 wafers/day) and I'm a poop factory! No bloating either, but I'm sure that's all due to childbirth. It's a miracle cure for me. :0)
