She has Alzheimers, but until now has been able to get herself to and from her volunteer work 3 times a week- not far from the house... and Steve (husband) tests her 2 other times a week on the route and on knowing her phone #. We cancelled her cell phone because she never took it with her and it was NEVER used.. if she did have it.. She did have about 50$ in her purse..

Anyway- she left the nursing home at 11:30 yesterday AM and never got home.. We got a call at 4:30 from her husband hoping she had contacted us... she hadn't... at 7 they finally filed a police report (federal missing persons report with her description AND her car info listed). At 9 we finally went home to feed animals and rest... at 3:45 this AM she was found- having been in a car/Train accident... all I know is she is in stable condition and they told Steve to go get her and he could take her home. She was an hour and a half away!

We know she won't get her keys back after this... but what else can we do...

That must have been terrifying. I'm glad you found her and I'll be thinking of you as you make some hard decisions.

I'm sorry you all had to go through that but I'm very happy to hear that she is now safe.

apparently the road she takes to get to the nursing home (not the way she goes home normally) continues on down to where she had the accident- she spent 13+ hours driving up and down that road and looking for her turn... obviously getting gas at some point. She started out at 11:30 AM and at 1 AM she hit a TRAIN.

The train WAS moving and she was going 50 miles per hour when she hit the side of it. The car was thrown 1/8 mile and they had to cut her out with the jaws of life.. BUT SHE WALKED AWAY.. she has NO broken bones.. just 7 stitches on her legs.. and some bumps and bruises..

Thanks Michelle... we know- no more car though so no need to remove the keys like we'd been planning...

Something else to show us that we are not alone. I don't know what's up there watching out for us, but I know that something is.

I am very happy your MIL wasn't seriously injured. Alzheimer's is such a rotten disease - all the best for her well-being and recovery from the accident.

Oh wow! What a horrible thing to have to go through! You guys must have been so worried. That disease is so awful. It robs the family and the person who has it of so many things. Glad to hear she wasn't hurt badly.
