I am having a difficult time determine whether or not I have IBS, if I am simply taking a long time for my body to get back to normal, or if I have dumping syndrome. About 5 months ago I had my gallbladder removed. Prior to getting it removed I was having extreme nausea to the point of feeling like I was going to faint. I was also having pain in the typical gallbladder spots. They determined after a hydra scan that my gallbladder simply wasn't working and removed it. For about two weeks after the surgery I felt pretty good then the diahrea and nausea came and have stayed. I tend to have nausea after eating with very loose stools. I also have had a racing heart beat at times and quite a bit of joint pain. My eyes get blurry as well. It is confusing because I don't really fit in either the IBS group or the Dumping Syndrome group. Unfortunately my Dr. also had me on Reglan for about 1 year prior to my surgery. From what I have read this makes the chance of getting dumping syndrome higher after surgery. Is there a test that can be done to determine if it is dumping syndrome?

I ask as I was just starting to read Heather's book "first year with IBS" and on one of the first few pages it states that if you recently had gallbladder surgery you may not have IBS. I am just confused on how to tell as the diets are a bit different in some areas.

I found this on www.mayoclinic.com:

Quote:

Screening and diagnosis

Your doctor can diagnose dumping syndrome by taking a careful medical history and then evaluating your signs and symptoms. If you have undergone stomach surgery, that may help lead your doctor to a diagnosis of dumping syndrome.

Because low blood sugar is sometimes associated with dumping syndrome, your doctor may order a test to measure your blood sugar level at the peak time of your symptoms to help confirm the diagnosis.

And this on Wikipedia:

Quote:

Diagnosis

Doctors diagnose dumping syndrome primarily on the basis of symptoms in patients who have had gastric surgery. Tests may be needed to exclude other conditions that have similar symptoms.

Pretty much the same thing.
