Dakota is now 1! He celebrated his 1st birthday on January 9! We got passed the eating poop stage, getting up at 2am and 4am stage, peeing in the house stage and puppy biting stage. However, he still likes to get socks, my underwear, shoes, tissues, dryer sheets, pantyhose and probably 9 million other things I missed. He's still a handful but has gotten much better. We are working on getting out of the crate while we are gone. Baby steps! Since he likes to chew so much, I'm really afraid that I'll come home to chewed kitchen cabinets and couches so we are gradually weaning him from his crate.
Just wanted to let everyone know that I made it this far with him and never thought I would. After having another golden for 14 years and then getting a puppy it was really tough! You forget what it's like and boy did we ever. It was like having another baby.
Here's another of him too:

Here is what he used to look like:

He's cute and handsome alright but ohhhhhhh so much work as a puppy! I know what you mean though, Golden's are the best. He's my third one! They are very hyper though and usually don't calm down until they are much older but they really are so loving and wonderful with kids. If I hadn't gotten him I seriously would have looked into a Golden Doodle. They are adorable and their temperment is much calmer. If you are thinking of getting a dog, look into that breed.

Aw, what a cutie pie!! I am glad to hear that things are going a bit better. Have you heard of bitter apple spray? You can get it at most pet stores, its a spray bottle of bitter apple tasting stuff that the dogs hate. If you spray it on something, they will not chew it!

I was having a heck of a time getting Oliver to stop pulling out Harley's ponytail. He ate 4 bungee rubber bands the other day! I sprayed some of this stuff on his pony tail holder and Oliver won't even get close to it now!!

I know I have a special place in my heart for Golden's. I keep going back to them. I say I'm gonna try another breed and I end up with a Golden!!!

Michelle, I've heard of that stuff. I would have to put it on every pair of my underwear before I stick them in my laundry basket! Could you imagine that?!?!
Do you think you can spray it on furniture? Have you ever done that? I may have to resort to that when he has free roam of the house when we are gone.

I wonder if I can spray it on the cat so he leaves her alone

Yes, he's adorable! Especially when he's sleeping and looks so innocent! Look out when he wakes up though! Devil dog we call him! Sooooooooo much energy.

He's a good boy though for the most part

Ya, as much as I'm a dog lover I don't think we'll be getting one anytime soon.

We have two great kitty cats, one of them is especially cuddly and follows me around like a dog so he'll have to do for now.

I always grew up with dogs. My family had a long haired german shepherd, an akita and currently my parents have a pug. All great dogs but I'm just not ready for that kind of responsibility. Plus FH is more of a cat person.

Well not sure the kitty would appreciate that! I just got the stuff the other day and have not tried it on furniture, it does say it may stain surfaces. I guess I would have to say get a bottle and try it on a corner and see. All I know is that Oliver is not eating Harley's rubber bands now that I have sprayed them with the stuff!

I think of Oscar (our dog) as a good dog, he rarely gets into stuff. What he DOES do, when we're gone sometimes is take dirty socks and bras out of the hamper!! I don't know why dogs like this stuff, must be the smell. I think it's just a dog thing. Oscar is just over a year old as well. Let's hope they grow out of it!
