This past year I switched from C to extreme D. I average about 10 trips a day with high velocity D. That's with the lomotil I take! Well, this week its been a bit worse and its bright, neon yellow/green. I have had this in the past but never more than a couple of times a day for a day or two at a time. Its been constant now for the last 4 days. Not only does it BURN like crazy coming out, my bum is raw and chaffed.
I try to gently blot with the tp and if I need further clean up, I'll use a baby wipe but I can hardly sit down. I tried some desiden (sp? the diaper rash dream!) last night but that actually seemed to make it worse! Should I try something like baby powder? Suggestions??
I'm going to visit my mom tomorrow and its 2 hours each way and I just can't imagine sitting so long with my bum so sore!

Sorry not sure what you should do about that sore bum of yours. I just thought I'd mention that the color could be from bile that hasn't been absorbed properly. That can happen when you have D. Not sure if you can do anything about that when it's temporary, but maybe you can ask one of your doctors the next time you see them.

I've always used Balmex. It's milder than Desitin, but still does the job.

I've not heard of that, is it still a diaper rash sorta thing? Do most drug stores carry it?

Have you tried Tucks pads? They also make generics, but they are medicated hemorrhoid pads. Those helped me when my D was the worst. They are very soothing.
I've never used a diaper rash ointment on myself, but I use Boudreaux's Butt Paste on our son. It's the best I've ever used BY FAR... very fast acting and creamy instead of greasy.

I thought about the hemorrhoid pads but haven't tried it. I think when I run out to pick up my bagel for lunch, I'll stop at the drug store and get some. It certainly can't make matters any worse!

I've used pure Shea butter before and that was helpful. I make sure and get soft toilet paper too. Soap is drying, which would make it worse, so I would avoid any of those wet wipe type things.
Perhaps get a squeeze bottle and squeeze clean yourself instead of wiping?

good ol'vaseline should help. And it's cheap, too. Put it on real thick and the "stuff" won't be able to get to your skin. That is all a friend of mine used on her son and he never had diaper rash at all.goodluck.

I got some generic tucks pads and some balmex. Its still sore but not as bad. Hopefully by tomorrow it will feel better. I plan to keep up a high dose of lomotil and give it a "rest" hopefully for a day or two!

Zincofax - extra strength - will immediately stop the burn. Also, Gerber diaper cream with oatmeal is also good. It's a bit thicker, so it doesn't feel as "slippery". Sorry if TMI. Hope your butt burn goes away - I hate it when I get that!! Love, A.

Ouch!! You poor thing!! I hope you've found a remedy that works for you by now! A long ride in the car would be most uncomfortable! Personally, I have a prescription cream Proctosedyl. It's alright, but not great.
HUGS!!

Pure shea butter helps. Hope you feel better soon.
Here's a Shea Butter Company that is great and they don't gauge you for money.

Ok here some advice only because after birth the bum is quite sore! Use the Tucks pads sparingingly because they will dry you out and make you itch. Use baby cream like the Butt Paste one or desitin. Also when Noah had really bad diaper rash I put together a homeade remedy from the doctor that uses Mylanta and Caldescene (sp?) poweder. Mix in 1 tablespoon of Mylanta and 2 of the powder and apply. It really works!!! Hope things are better!!!

That reminds me of the homemade ointment our pediatrician recommended when our son had a really bad diaper rash once (before we found the butt paste). They called it Happy Hiney Cream. ha ha! It was equal parts of aquaphor, anti-fungal cream (like lotrimin), mylanta, and hydrocortisone cream. Worked like a charm!

Another vote for vaseline here! Also "bag balm" is good.
