I can't believe I'm really gonna try this....LOL The most I've ever done is Bloomsday which is only 7.46 miles I'm gonna walk it and crazy Shane is gonna run it.....

We both have been hitting the cardio at the gym like crazy trying to get ready for it. Crossing fingers my planter fasciitis and Shane's knees hold up for us!!

This all started as a celebration of Shane's 40th Bday which is 11/21.... and then after he registered for it...(thinking no way would I do it) I registered the very next day.... I guess to celebrate my 36th Bday which is 11/29..... We may be getting older....but we are getting in better and better shape........I LOVE IT!!

One of these days we will both do the full marathon too!!

NO QUESTION...we will burn off all the Thanksgiving calories!! LOL

Just went to pick up our packets (bib numbers, shirts etc).....wow...there are gonna be A LOT of people doing this.... I'm starting to get nervous. I'm guessing that if I can walk around Christmas shopping from 7am-6pm and then keep shopping online that I will not have problems with walking 4+ hours to finish this....LOL However I will be walking MUCH faster and in those 11 hours I was shopping.... I also took 6 bathroom breaks and a lunch break....lol

Shane is getting excited too.....we can't wait....

OHHHH..... my feet hurt!! BUT I DID IT!! It was pouring down rain and even had some snow and hail (sp?).....I thought I was gonna die after about the 6 mile HILL.... then I was good to go after that until the 11 mile when it turned into mostly downhill, which really bothered my feet/heels. Shane bought me a 15 min massage for $15 bucks at the end...and we have a few pics....that we will post after Shane gets them off of his phone and resized etc etc. O, and check this out....I burned 2820 calories...wwoohhooo....

WE DID IT!!

I'll post Shane's unofficial results as soon as he forwards me the email he gets.

Shelley,
Congratulations on finishing the University of Washington Medical Center Seattle Half Marathon! Below are your Un-official Results. Official Results will be posted at http://www.seattlemarathon.org/2006results.asp inside of a week as well as being sent to you in our Results Issue.

Clock Time*: 4:40:57
Chip Time*: 4:40:23 (21.39 minutes per mile), includes 2 bathroom breaks each about 6-12 mins long due to lines

*All results are based on Official, gun start, time in accordance with USATF rules for scoring road races (a complete listing of the rules may be found at http://www.usatf.com/). Chip Times have been provided for your information. Please note that due to the very high density at the start line, some Chip Times are not available.

Congratulations!

Shell & Shane -

CONGRATULATIONS! You did awesome! I am married to a runner (almost 20 years now), so I know what it takes to train for a half marathon. You should be very proud of yourselves! Good Job!

4:30 AM: WTF? Why is my alarm going off? It's Sunday for God's sake, and even if it weren't....Oh, yeah, that little run today. Check weather....looks cold and wet...fill my fluid bottles (I WAY over did it BTW)...Time to wake Shell

5:00 AM: Shell up and moving? Check. Coffee Brewing? Check. Get dressed, do I really wanna freakin do this? I've been shooting off my mouth all week. Got to go thru with it now.

5:15 AM: DAMN IT IS COLD AND DARK AND WET. Im cold and wet and tired and cold and I only walked to the car. My car takes too long to heat up...it should be pre warmed for what I paid for it.

6:00 AM: Here we are. The car is warm, I don't want to get out. On the upside, I have a great parking spot! Who's incredibly stupid idea was this anyway? Oh, yeah.....that whole big F-U to the big 4-0 thing.
6:10 AM: Heated indoor area to wait in. This is the post race recovery area too...its nice, and we start to mentally and physically prepare.

6:20 AM: WTF!?!?! SNOW?!?!?! IN SEATTLE!?!?!

This was a bad idea....

7:15 AM: go to start line for 7:30 start

7:30 AM: start (betcha didn't see that coming did you?)

.25 miles: How can my feet be this wet already?

.75 miles: At least I'm not cold anymore.

1.25 miles: Toss off the disposable plastic poncho I've been wearing.

1.75 miles: This is going to be a long day....is that a thong hanging in that bush? So much for romance I guess.

Somewhere very near 2 miles:

***flashback to Labor Day in Cannon Beach***

As most of you know, we go to Cannon Beach every Labor Day for our anniversary. Last summer, during the wine and cheese social hour, we met this really nice couple. They had lost a bunch of weight together, and she was participating in Tris etc. We had some great conversation, exchanged email addys, and never really connected again.

***back to the present***

I'm running along, waiting for autopilot to kick on, when the nice lady next to me initiates some small talk. We chit chat for a minute or 2 when I realize it is Bonnie, the lady mentioned above. She hadn't figured it out yet, so I asked her where she was from etc, leading to me mentioning Cannon Beach.....I see the lightbulb above her head light to a chorus of "No Way!"

Now, I really had intended on making mental note of different things during the race and writing about them here, but from this point on we just ran, and ran, and ran...suddenly we are at 12 miles and I can see the finish. It was a great run and Bonnie challenged me and kept me going (mental note: solo running is not as productive as running with a partner) Check out Bonnie's blog if you get a chance, it is quite inspirational.

Next thing you know, we are finished (2:49 and some change)

Thanks again Bonnie, the experience was a better one for running with you!

That is pretty much it for me. That being said, I am SO incredibly proud of Shell. I don't think it has sunk into her head exactly what she did today and how incredlibly far she has come. It was not all that long ago, when Shells only weekend activity was moving from the bed to the couch and back. You have come so far baby and I am so proud of you! I'll be the first to admit, I teared up when you crossed that finish line (4:40:23).

Well, Its time for a little "Vitamin I" (Ibuprofen) and maybe some ice! Thanks for taking the time to read this longer than normal rambling!

Shane,

I thoroughly enjoyed reading your post and checking out the pictures you included! And I'm so touched by the admiration you have for your wife. I've been married over 20 years now and I'm here to say that it's the mutual love and respect, like what the two of you have, that keeps things together.

My husband has run a few marathons so I'm well acquainted with the sense of accomplishment one feels after pushing yourself to the physical and emotional limits that completing a marathon or any other challenge one takes on.

Completely proud of you both. Keep icing and don't forget the Advil!

Great job Shane! I'm proud of both YOU and SHELL!!!

Loved the post. When I first saw the pic of you holding up your number last night, I thought you didn't look too happy/awake. This post confirmed that! LOL

So, when's the next big event for you two?
