I'm loving my NuvaRing, and haven't had a period since May (I'm on it continuously). I feel way more stable. The only negative effects that it's had is that I've gained 5 lbs due to having fewer IBS attacks and less nausea and my fibrocystic breasts are still a bit more tender than they used to be on my week off the pill.

I also love my NuvaRing! I've been on it for over a year and I use it continuously for 3 months at a time, then take it out for a week to get my period. I also feel more stable than when I was on bc pills, they really upset my stomach.

Is this something you put in and take out yourself or do you have to go to the doc to have it done? Can you feel it at all? I may have to check into this little further...

Hi
Yes, you can put the NuvaRing in yourself. It's a flexible plastic ring and very easy to insert. I don't feel it at all, although my partner can sometimes feel it during intercourse, but it's not uncomfortable.
You can find more info on www.nuvaring.com

Thanks, I'm going to check into that, I'm not sure I'm liking the Yasmin pills.

Yeah, it's a flexible little ring maybe 1/8 of an inch thick and a couple of inches in diameter. You just fold it up and stick it in like a tampon. I will admit that I am a klutz and the first few days I couldn't quite figure out how to get it in far enough (hmmm...sorta like the first time I tried tampons ). Now that I have the hang of it I can remove my old one and put in my new one in about a minute, and then I forget about it for a month.

Very cool. I've heard of them before but never really looked into it. I didn't realize you could stop your periods with it, thats what I'm going for! If I can't have a baby, I don't want to deal with my period on top of everything else!

Hi Jen, I also was prescribed Alesse for the same reason. My doctor diagnosed me with polycystic (sp?) ovaries. It took a few months for me to get in to a pattern. But, I only took them for two months in a row, had my period and then started again.
I think if you have any concerns, you should talk with your doctor.
