It should be interesting as much of my job is keyboarding and I'm not much of a one handed typist (Jennifer, Melissa/Mikey, Kandee, Dont go there!).

He just called to say that he is going home... they are MAKING him go home... they told him he was not looking really good. Heck he has been awake 8 hours already...that is about 5 more so far then he has done in a long time... When he gets home he can take the "GOOD" pills and get some rest.... cuz after dinner is the whole helping him shower (with his arm in a garbage bag and being held up by my yoga strap in the form of a sling) and changing of the dressings and exercises... so he needs to save up some energy for that.

He just called to say he made it to work ok....does not know HOW he is gonna work... but he is there! LOL

Thanks to everyone who sent well wishes. Im going to try to go back to work tomorrow as the pain is controlled w/out narcotics now. It should be interesting as much of my job is keyboarding and I'm not much of a one handed typist (Jennifer, Melissa/Mikey, Kandee, Dont go there!). The whole drama will be documented at www.shanemarr.net/serendipity for those who wish to follow it. Thanks again for such an incredible outpouring, I really appeciate it! Shane

Below is a copy of an email that Shane just sent to his DR office....

I'm afraid it might be a blood clot....

Good afternoon! I have, for lack of a better description, a lump on my arm. It is located on the underside of the arm between the upper and lower straps on my brace. Its about 1/2 the size of a golf ball, hard to the touch, mildly sesetive to the touch, and the prettiest of purple, surrounded by a sea of bright yellow. It almost feels like a sunburn.

I wouldnt be concerned except it is nowhere near my incisions or the injury and appears to be getting worse. I see you folks on Monday, is this something that I should expect and you can check out then, or should it give me a more urgent concern? Other than that, I feel fantastic!

He took a shower today!! WWoohhoo!! He was so happy..we had his arm in a garbage bag...but still...

Went to the DR this morning... got to see the x-rays and the insision....his DR is FABULOUS!! We got copies of the x-rays that I will scan it and post this weekend with the other "high" pics...hehehe

I'm at work now for a few hours... this morning took a lot out of Shane so he is sleeping now... poor guy got car sick both coming and going to the DR....I think it is the meds...he said it felt like a never-ending roller coaster ride....

I'll update you all again this weekend....

Well..I guess I should start with WHAT happened!?!?! LOL

Shane gotten into his car Tues morning and put his paper coffee cup into the holder..he then saw his paper cup from Monday morning on the floor... he decided to take it to the dumpstar that is right near our cars. On his return to the car, he twisted his right ankle.... he then put out his left arm to stop the fall... his palm hit first then he slid on his forearm and landed HARD on his elbow...which was the cause of the major injury and dislocation of the elbow. A neighbor saw him and asked if he could help... he had him call me upstairs... (I was in a towel out of the shower and my hair was in a towel too).... I put on pants, shirt and slippers and came running down NOT KNOWING how bad it was... Shane heard me coming and yelled, "honey it's broken I need to get to a hospital" our eyes connected....I told him I would be right back...ran upstairs, got my shoes, bra, & purse... dropped the towel and ran back out.... the neighbor helped him into the passenger seat by that time... we both thanked him...and off we went....
*************
I'm at work right now.... I called to check on him at 10am and made sure he got his pain pills in him..... I'll go home right after work....but he did request one of those "stress balls" to work his left hand....so, I'll grab that first. I will take him in the morning to his appointment.

I'll update ya all if anything exciting happens..... oh, and I have some great "high" pics of him too that I need to get posted...LOL

P.S. after all that... he never did even get one sip of coffee!!

He is home and well medicated...NOW...he was in a lot of pain a few minutes ago.... sounds like his summer "activities" are over for this season anyway... He has a follow up appointment with the Ortho Surgeon on Friday....more details & pics to follow later..... we are both just gonna rest while the meds are workin for him....

Thanks again everyone!!

Just walked in the door (11:50pm)... that was so hard leaving him there at the hospital.... I know he is totally drugged and probably will not even remember me saying goodnight.... there was a message on the home machine from the Dr saying he would be in to Shane between 6:45-7AM....so I guess I better get my butt to bed so I can be there... I had planned on getting up at 6:30am...oh well...my baby is worth it. They replaced the radial head and repaired the ligament... he had a block put in so he can't feel any pain (it's numb) from the shoulder down... that could last up to 12 hours... so about 5:30am... I was able to spoon feed him some broth & Jell-O... then he was READY for sleepytime... he has been out pretty good since then (10:30pm).

OK... off to catch some ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzz.....

Thanks everyone for your well wishes....I will let him know....

xoxo

Thanks Jen...

He is in surgery now...I just ran home to get his eyeballs (glasses) a few other items he requested and a bite to eat.... they fixed the dislocation about 2 hours after we got to the ER (which was 7:15am)... he does not remember ANY OF THAT part... he fractured (sp?) and shattered a bunch of stuff in the arm at the elbow and it is now being opened up and "replaced" the parts that shattered could not be saved. He will hopefully come home wed evening... and will not go back to work until Monday at the soonest.... 6-8 weeks before he can bike (that is his big concern) LOL The best part.... it is his left arm and he is left handed... So, guess I'll be playing Mrs. Nurse for a week or so... poor guy...

Yeah.... not anything we need to worry about it... we will do as she suggests below!

Hi Shane, glad to hear that you are surviving! From my visualization of
your description it sounds like you have accumulated some swelling
between the upper straps of your elbow brace. When swelling does not
"move out" of your extremity it begins to consolidate into a firm mass.
This sounds like what you might be experiencing. My suggestion would be
to do some heat contrast over that area. Put warm heat over your arm
for 5 min then place a bag of ice (or frozen peas) over the area for 5
min. Repeat 3 times. Try to get at least two cycles in per day. The
hot stimulates blood flow to the area then the ice constricts the
vessels to push out old swelling. It works pretty well. As long as you
are not having any change in sensation along your arm or hand I would
not worry! Call if you have anymore questions, otherwise we'll see you
Monday.

Jenn
