Hi Everyone,
I've gained a lot of information reading older messages, especially about various types (brands) of foods that are recommended for IBS-D. I've noticed a lot of people are from all over the world which is pretty cool...but I was wondering if there were any Canadians that could recommend some specifically "canadian type" brands that would help me introduce them to my diet.

Yeah, I am Canadian. Hmm, I ahve to think of some good Canuck foods that are great. I loooove Silk soy milk, that saves my life. And Soy Tazo Chai lattes in Starbucks are awesome. Just avoiding coffee alone is a huuuge help!

was from Chatham, New Brunswick(now called Miramachi City).

I'm in NW Ontario, and although the selection is small, I manage to get Soy yoghurt at the Superstore. Like Shan I love Soy Silk too. And Blue Diamond Chocolate Almond Milk as a treat. There are limited hfs here, but even the grocers are starting to carry ibs friendly food. Follow your diet, find your triggers and good luck!

We're currently in Fredericton. We also did three years in Chatham back in 92... it has changed quite a bit since then.

I haven't been there since '72, so I guess I probably wouldn't
even recognize the place. I remember watching the Chatham
bridge being constructed. Say, was a fellow by the name of
Gary Bernard mayor when you were there. He was a good friend
of mine as a little kid. I remember getting in trouble for
playing with matches for the first time when I was hanging out

Hey there!
Welcome to the boards! I am Canadian as well, I know it is a little harder to find stuff but you can do it.. just takes some searching!
Like everyone else, I looove Silk Soy Milk. Chocolate silk is *very* yummy.
For soy cheese, you have to be really careful in that some of it is *awful*. My favourite for soy mozarella (and it makes a really good pizza is called "SOYA" and has different flavoured "loafs" (like cheddar, mozarella, etc). It is the only soy cheese I've ever had that I really, really like. It is made in BC, I believe, so you may have a hard time finding it. I am wondering if you can order it..
For treats, "tofutti" products are really good. I like "tofutti cutie" ice cream sandwiches. I have only found them at "Save on Foods".
You can get "Luna Bars" at most places. They are soy based nutrition bars for women.
I have tried many different kinds of soy yogurt (so you can find it), but I haven't enjoyed any that I have found so far so I have no name recommendations for you on that one, unfortunately.
You can also probably find quite a few "Yves" products in your grocery store for soy replacement pepperoni, hotdogs, chicken peices, hamburger, etc.
Another brand is "Amys" and they make some ready meals and things like burritos and pizzas and stuff that have either soy stuff, or just no cheese or dairy products. I have found some at my local Safeway, but have had to go out to Organic Grocery stores for a bigger selection.
If you are just talking about regular food, a lot of the stuff that people talk about in the US we can get here. I live on Motts unsweetened applesauce cups, pretzel sticks, Quaker caramel flavoured rice cakes, etc.
Oh, and if you haven't already, take a look at this: Brand Name Foods as it has a few other Canadian things (it's at the bottom) that I didn't mention!

Thanks everyone for your feedback. I'm going out to try some of the soy products. I'm a huge milk drinker so we'll see..
