Unbelievable - the hotel called back

What the heck...today the guy from the hotel called like 7 times! (I was out dropping off resumes and looking for jobs). Finally I spoke with him, and he said the person he chose over me "didn't work out" and was I still interested in the position. It's been one day! And he's already let someone go...weird.

Anyways, it killed me to do it but I turned it down. You all know I was excited about the idea of working in a hotel because it's something I've wanted to try for awhile but I just couldn't take it after the way he treated us during that weird interview and also after finding out the "extras" that the job entailed.

I just don't think I would have ever felt safe there...just doesn't seem right to expect a young girl to go up to single men's rooms to plunge toilets, replenish supplies etc., when there is no one else working in the hotel if you ran into trouble.

please somebody tell me I did the right thing? I've got some other very promising leads but this would have started TOMORROW...and I definately need money so I started crying as soon as I told him I wasn't interested. I hate that I can never just make a decision and stick with it.

Hi Kelly,

I think you did the right thing. You shouldn't feel unsafe in the workplace and not supported.

Something else that is more suitable will come up, I'm sure of it Besides, how reliable is this manager anyway to let someone go after 1 day.

I wouldn't worry about it, continue to follow the promising leads and hand out more resumes.

Like you said before, maybe you can apply to a larger hotel with more staff.

Best of luck.
Jenn

Darn right!!!!! I'm glad you didn't take it. Something better will come along. Plus, if they fired someone so quickly that's a BAD sign.

It would have been a bad idea to put yourself in a position as dangerous as that, you are worth far more.

I know how desperate you are for money (I am too, have been unable to work for 13 months now), but your life and your safety is worth far more than any money.

Besides - you'll find a much better job, I'm sure. It'd definitely be a much better idea to work in a larger hotel where there's more people around and you're not expected to be the only person there and attend people's rooms, etc.

All will come good!

You did the right thing. I would not have felt safe working there alone either.

You did well. I have had to hire and fire my share of assistants and although it happens, you shouldn't take the position if they already canned the first person. It would be different if the first person came in and declined the position once they started it, which I have had happen to me twice. One girl lasted 33 minutes!
Good luck with your job search!!

Deep down you felt degraded by it and why would you want to do something you didn't feel right about in your gut, right?

I agree, you did the right thing. The whole thing just sounded a little "off" to me. Something better will come along, hang in there!
