I had an appointment with my GI doc yesterday to tell him that I've been having a lot of problems recently (see my Hershey Park post from last week). After some discussion, he determined that I need to talk to a surgeon about removing the prolapse in my rectum. The prolapse has really been a problem and it makes BMs really difficult.

As a side, I've also switched from Lactulose to Miralax on the advice of my GP, so we shall see what comes of it.

The miralax works well for me. I hope you don't end up needing the surgery!!

It won't be fun but if it's a problem it HAS to be dealt with. What is the recovery time?

I haven't met with the surgeon yet, but from what I can tell from what I've seen online it's 3-6 days in the hospital. Beyond that, no idea.

Ugh!

If you have to have surgery, I really hope it alleviates the problem.

I'll pray that you are able to make a wise decision, as for me I am in no hurry to head back to the OR after all I've been through so my prolapsed bottom is just going to have to wait. IF you have it done let us know how it goes!

My appointment with the surgeon has been scheduled for the 8th. I'll let you know how it goes afterwards.

The doctor said that it's about as bad as a prolapse can get. Not so reassuringly, he also said that he's never seen a prolapse like this in someone my age.

The recovery time is pretty big; about a week in the hospital then a few more weeks out of the hospital. This is likely gonna wreck my work plans a bit, but it's something that needs to be done.

I'm probably getting it done in mid-late July. I'll keep you guys posted.

Hey,

Sorry to hear you have to go in for surgery, that sucks. I mean, maybe it doesn't suck it it means that you'll be feeling better afterwards but in the short-term I guess it's not what you want to hear.
Hopefully the recovery time will go by pretty quick, if you are stranded near a computer you know we can keep you company!

Good luck, let us know how everything is going!
Steph!
