Well our 14yr old son ended up leaning against the toilet tank(i have no idea what he was thinking?!!),dh was so mad at him telling him " It's not a RECLINER!.He did this awhile ago and so we have had a slow dripping leak from the tank since then.Since i am trying so hard to live more frugally and pay off bills,i did not want to just use the credit card and buy another one.I wanted to wait until we had the cash, plus i had to wait until dh had an available weekend and some ambition to do it. So all this time we just kept towels down to catch the extra water. So we knew this would be the ideal weekend to fix it.
Now keep in mind we live in the sticks, very small town, and have to drive atleast a 45 minute drive to a Menards or Home Depot.I knew that Menards would sell just the tank, but couldn't convince my dh to drive that far. He insisted on going 20 miles the opposite way to a Fleet Farm store(thats a farm supply, housewares, plumbing type store),so we get there and they don't sell just the tank, you have to buy the whole toilet. $65 was the cheapest one.So we bought it, went home.Dh and my son were going to install it while i left with our daughter to get the grocery shopping done.I get home and he's still trying to install it,cussing and swearing,so i knew things were not going well. Then he ends up busting off the bolt that comes up from the floor so that you can bolt the toilet bowl down onto the floor!!! He starts saying he might need to hire a plumber to replace that part.I'm having a heart attack because a plumber on a Saturday during Memorial Day weekend is gonna be some HUGE money!!! He finally calls his dad over, who says they need to go in the basement cutoff a section of the drain pipe, put in a new one and the new ring that bolts the toilet down.So they run downtown to our little hardware store, which i never shop at because, well, it's a small town so it's super expensive. UGH....$67 for the parts he needed! Meanwhile i start feeling the urge to have to use the bathroom big time!!!Lucky for us we have a toilet in the basement, so there i am sitting on the toilet and a huge bumble bee starts flying around the room!! I'm terrified of bumble bees since being stung by one as a child and having my face swell up! I never sh*t so fast in my life!! LOL....dh and my father in law finally finished up installing the new toilet.Of course if he would have listened to me in the first place, Menards does sell the tanks seperately for about $20-30 dollars, instead we spent $132.00 plus extra for the wax-ring and other supplies to fix the pipe. Maybe next time he will listen to me? lol.

Sounds familiar!!! Why go for the easy fix? MEN!!! ARGH!! I sympathize. Spent last week playing plumber at work. My staff are useless! The flapper broke on the ladies toilet. "I can't flush" was heard often. So I ended up elbow deep in the tank flipping the flapper several times a day. Useless women I work with - the water in the tank is cold yes, but it's also clean!! I completely understand your toilet woes!!
Smile, now you got a new thrown when you're in need!
