Ugh, it's been a tough week. Friday I went to the doctor for a strep test and he told me I have mono (negative for strep).

I took this whole week off of work and I might have sacrificed this project (it's week 5 out of 6). I leave for Thailand in 2 and a half weeks and want to be ok for the trip.

As usual, getting well is my #1 priority! But life has a way of getting in the way of that!!

I had a fever that just wouldn't break this weekend (kept vomiting all the tylenol) and I was hallucinating that everything was taking place when I was 6 and had pneumonia. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what room I was in!

I'm all stressed out over the work situation and having to let this project drop. Some people will be let down and I hate feeling guilty about that. I'm just trying to concentrate on being happy that today I can take a deep breath without feeling that I'm under water.

Send hugs and love to Nelly, P.O. box My Bed!!

Mono, jeesh. Like I'm 15 again.

What crappy thing to get! I am sorry to hear that you are feeling so sickly Nelly. Tina and I were just talking tonight and wondering how you were. Now I guess we know. Here's hoping you get well soon.

oh no! what a crappy time to get it!! Do you have a light case? (full on cases can keep you bed ridden for a month or more so I hope its not that!!)

I got mono my freshman year of college, but it was a relatively light case. I was stuck in bed for a week, but after that I was feeling slightly better. However, I was told that I couldn't drink alcohol for at least six weeks and I also had to be careful bc my spleen/liver area def stuck out for quite awhile. Even a few months after i'd be winded walking up and down stairs or going for long walks.

Talk to your doctor about these things especially if you'll be walking a lot on your vacation! Also.. tell BF to watch out cause he may get it too from smoooching!

oh man i'm so sorry! I hated mono!

Been there, done that. The most important thing is REST. Sleep, sleep, sleep. Don't push yourself, no matter how tempting it might be - you can cause permanent damage to your organs (liver? kidneys? I don't remember which one) if you don't. Get lots of protein - my doctor recommended that, and it really did help me feel better. And here's hoping you don't have it for 2 months like I did.

Get well soon!

REST girl, REST. Don't feel guilty about the project, unless of course you got Mono on purpose to affect the project (KIDDING). Of course it's not your fault. Let it go. Do you think the other people on your project never got sick before? Nothing you can do.
Take care of yourself now, or it's only gonna take longer to get better.
Huge hugs,
A.

I had mono during my senior year of high school. I was MISERABLE. You have my sympathy. The only good thing that came out of that was losing about 20 pounds -- not that I needed it. I was under 100lbs at graduation!!!!

Oh, mono is tough! I'm so sorry to hear that.

Don't worry too much about your project. You'll figure something out. Just rest up as I think that's the best thing for mono.

Thanks so much guys for the empathy and support. It's really what I needed to hear right now, and I'm not getting the support from my family/bf at the moment.

I have a shrink appointment at 4pm today, and it's the same guy that didn't show up last month (which drove me into tears in the waiting room+prompted a nurse to rush over an ativan Rx). So this will be the first "official" appointment.

I've been sick for 2 weeks now and the fevers have finally gone away. I was going to drive over and pop my head in, disgusting as I am right now, so the doctor can see what I look like when I'm sick. There's no use in him seeing me well. Right back into bed after that for me.

I love you guys and know you understand!! I had a little panic attack this morning when I realized today was a big work meeting where my presence would be missed.

So weird having to drop out of life after I'd joined it again. But I guess in the big picture there's nothing that's really changed. I'm still sick and I still need to get well. Life has to go on without me for a little longer.

Good idea about your shrink seeing you sick.

I had to let my doctor see how bad my ibs was once so I didn't hold back my tears.

Mono is no fun but I've known lots of people with it and it does get better at some point. You won't feel this lousy forever. Remember that!

I was in bed for weeks. And had flu symptoms along with it for about 3 weeks. Get as much sleep as you can and don't try anything until you're fully recovered. I had to work through it for about 2 months because I couldn't afford to take the time off and I had no insurance. Finally I just couldn't get up one morning and my bf, now hubby, had to drag me down to the clinic. Drink lots of water. I found that oatmeal and mushed up bananas were the easiest things to stomach. Get better soon.

As long as your alive, your part of life, right?

sorry you have this to deal with now. Let us know if the doc decides to show up today! Maybe he'll surprise you and be really nice after all.

I totally understand about not having a family support you when they can't see a physical illness. Makes ya feel really alone doesn't it...and sort of angry at them too.

Funny you should say that!! He didn't show up. Lucky I called exactly at my appointment time, because I saved myself a trip.

THEN they told me they're not refilling my AD prescription, the methacarbanol (like soma) plus the donatal until I see the doc!!

Since he's cancelled 2 months in a row I haven't seen him for 3 months! Since it is a free clinic (you're asked to make a $20 donation), they have a rule about seeing the doc every time I get medications.

I ended up crying on the phone, saying I have mono, and the AD and soma are addictive and I'll go through withdrawals in addition to being sick. She's like, "Fine. Come in on Thursday and I'll have them ready" !! (???!?!?!!) SO AGGRAVATING!!

I ended up calling my fibro clinic in Pennsylvania to talk to the friendly receptionist, Stephanie. I gguess that was kinda weird, huh? I guess I could have called one of my friends on the boards, but it's like I don't want to be a bother because everyone's going through their own stuff...

It was so good hearing a friendly voice. She told me the fibro doc would give me a call and she said she couldn't believe no one had given anything for the mono. I love my fibro clinic. Just hearing that made me feel better.

I have dropped 9 pounds since Friday (4 days). 9 pounds I can't afford to lose!!

I was 34 years old! Talk about being old with mono! OMG it was awful. I was out of work 2mths! Don't worry though, I had mono and lyme at the same time that's why I was so sick. You should recover though in three weeks. Just in time for your trip. I can sympathize with you though. I was on an every other day shower simply cause I had ZERO energy! I mean ZERO. It was the weirdest thing. I also had a fever for 10 days straight. Night sweats for 10 days. It was awful, simply awful! I hope you feel better real soon Nel! Got lots of rest and fluids!!!

Nelly,

I am so sorry that you have mono and are feeling bad. The last person that I remember having mono was a friend of mine when I was in the 8th grade.

Please take care of yourself and try not to worry about work. You are sick and there is nothing you can do about it. I'm sure your co-workers understand that you are sick.

Feel better soon, Hugs!

When I had mono, I lost something like 20lbs. Weight loss is normal with mono. My doctor was like, don't get too excited, you'll gain it back... and I did... and then some. So don't fuss about the weight loss too much; it's temporary. Trust me on this one.

Your doctor is an a$$ and a few other colorful names that I won't put on the boards. What a jerk.

That's ridiculous! Did the folks at the clinic at least apologize or give you a reason why he hasn't been keeping his appointments?

I'm sorry to hear you have mono. I hope you get better soon, at least in time for your trip.
