OK, everyone mentioned amatriptyline caused breast growth. I never believed them until yesterday when I got fitted for a bra. 36D. I'm in shock.

They were really nice in the bra department. I went to Hechts and they ushered me in the back to measure me. I told them there was some mistake because I'd been a 34B for the last decade. Tho I'd noticed my one 34C bra fit me better lately...

They measured twice. No mistake! I've got Ds! 36 Ds no less!

Now you'd think this'd make me happy. I was APPALLED. They pulled out bras that looked like mattresses. With the TRIPLE clip in the back. I shakedly took them in the back to try them on. They fit like medical devices, like some bizarre back brace.

They actually asked me if I wanted a minimizer. I explained I wasn't even wearing a bra that day. I don't need them lifted and seperated! Just strap them down!!

I finally settled on a black lycra one, underwire, no padding. I'm still bemused that most of the D bras I looked at actually come with padding. To my B sisters: I will take careful notes and report back from the Dark side. How will people treat me with my new chest? Is there quality of life to be found in D-hood? I shall find out.

~nelly~

P.S. (I called my BF from the store to break the news he's dating a boob model. I told him my new size (Ds!!!) and he said thoughtfully, "You're extremely datable." Men, gotta love 'em.)

Nelly, you're adorable. And yes, the BF is a typical male. "The bigger, the better!"

Minimizers are all I've ever known. Can I hear it for "Double D"!? I saw a plastic surgeon once, in an effort to get a breast reduction. He took a black marking pen and marked up my boobs (actually, it wasn't all that unpleasant.....) then took a picture and sent it to my insurance company in an effort to get them to cover at least part of the cost. They declined. Crapola.

The best part of big boobies is running. I used to love to run, but the boobs got in the way. I ended up wearing TWO exercise bras and running with my arms folded in front of me. Then my boobs would ache for hours afterwards.

Welcome to My World! BTW, don't bother buying those sexy bras; they won't hold 'em up, and anything without underwires can't handle the load!

Hechts eh? Gosh, I forgot about that store! I used to love to shop there. Hechts and Woodies. Also Lord & Taylor. Are they still around?

Nelly, that's hilarious and amazing! WOW! I didn't know this was a side effect of amitriptyline.

Hmm...I've been on it for a month or two, but I haven't noticed anything. I'm an A, so I wouldn't be opposed to a visit from the Boobie Fairy.

"Luke, I am your father" Just kidding. Being busty isn't all that bad! I'm a little person with a set of "knockers". I'm 5'1" and weigh 127 lbs with a 34 D - DD chest. The fiance really likes them!! Although they are a pain, especially going to the gym and the pool - like Bevvy said, 2 bras or a tensor bandage to hold you in!
I actually lost a size, lucky me!! When I dropped from 172 lbs to 130 I went from 36 F to 36DD, and I'm down to the 34 D now, comfortably.

When I got married in 97 I was a 34B, just like you. Now, I'm a very voluptuous 36DD! Yikes! I hate having boobs! I would give anything for my B's anyday.
Applause for going to a reputable store and getting fitted properly. There's nothing worse than an ill fitted bra on big boobs. You feel like you're in a cage.
Since breastfeeding, I have been very anti-bra. I only wear them when I go out. Yikes! I think I need to be refitted....
Anyhoo, enjoy 'em if you can!
Your next task on the dark side....
Try and find a bathing suit that will fit. Then let me know where to get one!

ha ha ha, you're always so hilarious Nelly!!!

I understand COMPLETELY though. My birth control pill caused my boobs to go from a C to a freakin' DD!!! No joke! And as you know, I'm a shorty pants and am on the slimer size so they look even bigger. UGH!

My friend that was visitng from Canada even commented on how big thry were. Plus the larger they are the more some men STARE! Just today I was walking in our neighbourhood with Tommy and two men were BLATANTLY obvious in staring at my boobs. We were both pretty p@ssed off!

Enjoy them, but are they permanent or temporary?

Gotcha on the bra's. At a D cup, they no long look "cute" and look like "over the shoulder-boulder-holders". LOL!

I am positive you will notice new glares from men to your chest. Oh joy.

Suddenly it all makes sense! I always had tiny boobs, like a 34A/B. When I got pregnant they went to a C, but then back down to a B afterwards. Over the last 12 months, whilst I've been on amitriptylene I've put on about a stone and a half in weight (knew that was a side effect), but have also gone up to a large D cup - and now I know why!

Thanks for sharing Nelly - really helped me understand what's happened! No complaints though really, hated being tiny, though know what you mean about bras - I tend to shop online here in the UK to get nice D sized bras, as the ones in the shops are pretty gross.

Good luck with your new boobs!

And button-up shirts too - if they fit you everywhere else they gape over the boobs, and if they're big enough for the boobs they swamp the rest of you - and you look like you have your husband/boyfriends bra on!! If anyone finds one that fits just right I'd be very interested to hear!

You know, the boobie fairy has not visited me in years. At some point, I went from an A to a B, and there I've stayed...which is fine with me.

But now that you mention the fairy, last night I had a dream. I don't remember what exactly it was about, but I do remember noticing my boobs were bigger and then going on with the rest of the dream. Odd thing to remember about a dream.

Glad you're enjoying it!!!

I was a 36DD for as long as I could remember and I HATED them!! I'm only 5'3 and they took over my entire frame and were just way too large for my body size.

I had a breast reduction 6 months ago and am now a 36C and happy as ever with my new boobies!!

Hry I remember you had the reduction. Was it as painful as you thought it would be? Did you qualify for it to be paid for? Also, any differences with how clothes fit?

Just curious. I MUCH prefer myself when I was a C cup. A DD is too much for my small frame too. Plus t-shirt and shirts in general are ALWAYS too tight in the chest area. Ugh!

You can also, then, imagine my shock when - going on birth control for the first time at 29 - I found myself suddenly carrying around 34DD's. Grapefruits. Cantaloupes, even. So yes, I sympathize.

So for those in the US, I've found that NY and Co shirts actually fit pretty well... I still wear tank tops underneath because they show a bit (with no boobs directly under the buttons, there is nothing to hold the fabric together!), but they look like they "fit"... they don't pull or anything and they are fitted to look pretty flattering around the tummy. I hate their pants though

And I also JUST discovered bras... I bought them online since they are posted everywhere (just search for them), after trying on one at a store and loving it only to realize that it was the ONLY one the store had in my size. The name is Vanity Fair's body sleeks (contemporary contour stretch). They are low enough that I can wear them with tank tops and sexy shirts and supportive enough so that they actually hold me pretty stable (DDs like to bounce too much, ouch). They also don't let you fall through the middle... I always had that problem with Fredrick's of Hollywood or Victorias Secret. But I've fallen in love with these bras!!

Cheers

The surgery went extremely well. It really was nothing. I think I took maybe 2 painkillers afterwards and then I was taking regular advils. I was driving again after a week and back at work after 2 weeks. The entire surgery was covered by OHIP so I didn't have to pay a cent!!

It really was the best decision I ever made. I don't regret it for one second and would have the surgery 10 more times if I had to.

Clothes fit better now, my boobs don't sag (I can actually wear bikini tops without wire in them!!!) and I've never felt better about my body.

If you're considering having it done then I say do it!!! You won't regret it!!!

I am a 34DD too... (hey casey!) but I haven't had much luck with fredericks bras lasting or not scratching... I shop at www.barenecessities.com They ahve all the odd sizes and bras from plaint o fancy in all of them.. one thing- in general on a large bust- a minimizer will strap you down, something else will push it out... I wear almost exclisively minimizers and when I can find them on sale Goddess no wire bras- talk about comfy and no underwires, but very supportive and hold me in place!

I hate my new boobs, but I've convinced myself this is a temporary thing and eventually I will go back to my normal size.

I did stop taking the amatriptyline though. My stomach's been pretty good for now, and I hate all the water weight gain!! Boobs are one thing, but my tummy's grown too...

A bunch of us have had the same experience with ama. Ruchie was complaining recently that the boobie fairy'd visited her too. I wonder where Ruchie's been, actually?

You're too funny Nelly! And who was it that said, "I wear a bra to make it look like I have some" Thats me!!! Well, actually, since the RA has invaded my chest, I CAN'T wear a bra because it hurts too much so I guess I should be glad that I'm only a A, on a good day! I actually find those training bra's that come in half sizes fit better, the ALMOST A!!! Aw well, I just went out and bought a bunch of those tanks with the "shelf" bra, or scaffolding as someone else called it! I wouldn't mind my small chest if the rest of me was small. However, when your tummy sticks out farther than your boobs, well, lets just say it ain't pretty!

Kimm, sounds like it went super well and you're bwyond happy with the results!!!

I don't think I'll have it done as I'm a baby when it comes to pain and I am hoping my boobs get smaller if I ever lose weight.

So how do they look? Are there scars? The fact that they're perky is awesome and that would be a main reason that I'd have the surgery. As you know, at a large boob size they are hardly perky. I miss my teenage years when I was a B cup and they were perky.

I have to cut the tiny 25mg pills into querters. Good thing they're hard or else I'd have pill dust everywhere! As it was, I had to scrape up the pill sand in order to put back together the quarter of a pill and hope I was taking the right dose.

If these things can give ME boobs, they can give anyone boobs!! I was as flat as a table til I was 25. Everybody would compare bra sizes and I'd have no idea, because I still had my "training" bra. When I wore one, which was rarely!

Finding my size was never the problem. Finding straps that adjust short enough IS. I guess I'm freakishly short from the shoulder to the bust, or maybe my "twins" are just so darn heavy that they drag everything down, but with VS bras, my boobs end up down around my waist. LOL! (Ok, slight exaggeration!) Plus the bras tend to wear out and fall apart quickly, at least in my experience. I'm a Frederick's girl all the way!

The scars are very minimul....my friend who had the same surgery had hardly any noticable scars by about 12 months after. Mine are still a little noticable but it's only been 6 months so I've got more healing to do still.

In the end....any minimul scaring I will have is well worth the benefits of the surgery.

Yeah...I have an aunt that actually had a breast reduction TWICE because they GREW BACK! Can you believe that? She went as Dolly Pardon for Halloween and needed no padding.

If only you people could donate your leftovers. I've always wanted to be a bigger size than I am....between an A and B. And now, I'm having some chest pain stuff (maybe hiatal hernia) I need to take my bra off at the end of the day because I feel like crap. If I could go all day without, I would ....but someone might call me Senor instead of Senora! Blahhhhhh.

So...no one's answered my question: What is this med for and where can I get it!! hehehehe

Well my surgeon said that if you're over weight and your breasts are composed of mostly fat tissue then yes they will grow back so there's no point in having the surgery.

He said that if you lose a significant amount of weight and your breasts are still large then that means they are composed of mostly "breast tissue" which does not grow back.

Unfortunately for me it wasn't a matter of losing weight (I would rather go on a diet than go through surgery obviously) because I'm only 125 pounds (and I had DD's) so surgery was the right decision for me.

Although I have heard there are some surgeons who will perform the surgery regardless of your weight in the US. However in Canada because this surgery is covered by insurance they require that you first try to lose weight before attempting the surgery (if you are in fact what they consider to be "overweight").

Hope this helped!!!

Well, I can't speak for the others, but I do know my husband, and I can assure you that his disappointment is far greater when the weight of my chest causes me extreme back pain than his disappointment in the size of flesh he fondles.

There are over 50 anonymous users browsing the message board tonight. How many do you want to bet typed "boobies" into a search engine and somehow ended up on this site!?

I totally agree. Mine just kinda grew... out. I don't ever wear a bra, except at work where I kinda have to strap them down. I don't understand... I don't have any stretch marks or anything, and everything's still pointing up. They're just, you know, wider!!

Ugh!

Amitriptyline is a tricyclic AD. I'm not taking it at the AD strength (150-200mgs) but rather just 6.25mg a night (one quarter of a 25mg pill).

It helps "re-wire" my gut, so that in the morning when I'd usually get the first pangs of a stomach ache I get the sweats instead. Weird, but it works.

I'm 5'4" 129ish and I'm a 32D or 34C. What most people don't take into consideration is that the letter part of the size just indicates the difference in inches between the measurement around your ribcage and the measurement around the fullest part of your boobs. So, if your ribcage is 32 inches and your boobs are 33, then your an A, 34 and your a B, etc. People are often surprised when I tell them I wear a D since my boobs don't seem tremendously large, but their circumference is 4 inches more than my 32inch ribcage, which is pretty small. Of course, 32D is about the hardest to find size, so I end up wearing a 34C most of the time. 32Ds of course fit much better, but the only time it makes a huge difference is when I'm shopping for a strapless bra. A 34C simply won't stay up or hold me up, so it's gotta be a 32D.

Mine came from the boobie fairy as well. When I started 8th grade I had basically nothing, like 32A or something like that -- I just wore a bra so I wouldn't be the only one in the locker room without one. By the end of that year I was a B, and then I totally skipped being a C and was a D by the time I did back to school shopping before 9th grade. Of course the rumor around school was that I'd gotten a boob job. Gotta love 9th graders! Of course at the time I still weighed like 105, so they really did looke huuuuge on me. Now that I'm more adult-shaped they just look biggish, but not crazy huge. Plus I'm a law student and I like to be taken seriously at school, so I really pile on the layers. When my school friends run into me on a Saturday night when I'm wearing something low-cut, they are always in shock. My friend Alice calls them my surprise boobies. It's fun! And yes, the bf is a fan!

Haha yeah but it's all about what the market will bear. We women have shown them time and again that we're willing to pay $40 or way more for underwear. Men would just go commando if the prices went up that high! I try to get all my bras on sale. I think it's only a NY/NJ thing but we have an amazing discount department store called Century 21 (not the realtor), that gets designer clothes and sells them cheap. I got about 15 bras there over christmas.

Yup! There is one in Manhattan, right across from the world trade center (or what's left of it). There is also one in Brooklyn, I think on 4th Ave in Bay Ridge. web page

There is also one in Morristown, NJ, 10 min from my parents, and I love going to that one because there is no sales tax on clothing in NJ.

-Bras are more expensive
-More women will notice than men
-Shirts will be fitting differently (duh, right?)
-You're lower half may decide it wants in on the growth (at least mine always does)
-Men will still stare. It doesn't matter how big or small, how they're shaped, or even if they're in the right place, to most men, a boob is a boob and that's all they care about.

*Victoria's Secret has some very attractive and stylish and comfortable D size bras. Fredericks of Hollywood also has good stuff.

If your twins are nice and perky, that will do the trick. It's sort of the equivalent of the shelf bras they put in some tank tops now, but it'll fit better because it's not attached to something else.

Personally, that would never work for me. I have this one (well, ok, a similar one, that one doesn't come in a DD), which is a good choice if you decide you need more support than a shelf bra.

Well, the fact that they defy gravity, in spite of their sudden "inflation" is definitely in your favour--truly a good thing. I would rather be borderline flat then big and sagging. I still have that pubescent chest--ugh!

It must be rather like waking up in a different body!

I hate bras--too confining.

Drugs do strange things to us. Hehe, Nelly has 'hooters.' Just teasing. I'd be jealous, but they just don't match my body. You have the advantage of being really tall.

- Get marks in your back and shoulders from bras so that even when you take your bra off, it leaves a little something behind

- Knock yourself unconscious when running down a flight of stairs

- Have people "accidently" hit you in the boob when they are walking by, gesturing with their hands while they talk to you, anything really when they think there is more space in front of your body but, oh no, it's all boob.

- When standing, find yourself slowing tipping forward

I have actually not noticed that more people look at my chest than other girls I go out with, even if their boobs are way smaller. Unless you put them out on display or something. I notice more women comment on it to me, though. One day this girl was looking and looking at work and I finally went, "What??" and she said, "Your boobs really are huge!" Gee, thanks. Then, like 2 weeks later, she was like, "So when are you going to get your boobs done?" 'cause I had mentioned being on a waitlist for a reduction. Oh my!

Welcome to the club! Treat them nicely, and buy good bras! Otherwise, ouch ouch ouch!

Steph

Yeah, at least I'm tall, so they kinda go. I'm wearing the 36D bra today, and it's *still* pinching my side, like cutting into my soft fleshy under-armpit where my boob ends. If I had the guts, I'd just try a DD bra on. But I don't want to go back to that department store! *shudder*

As it is, I'm going to go topside commando tomorrow. Just have to find a suit jacket that hides nipplage. Sigh.

Hi Tina,

When I was graduating from high school, I was a D.. just about a DD probably and I wanted to wear this really pretty dress with tiny straps.
My friend's mom had a bra from Victoria Secret that looked almost identical to the one in your picture and it seemed to do the trick pretty nicely.
The more the fabric wraps around and holds everything in place, the better. The pic of the one Casey showed looked good too because of the underwire but something like that would literally just slide off me gradually through the day, even when I was still a D. I would try both on and giggle around and stuff and see which one starts to slip down. Also, try different sizes in everything because it is so strange with bra sizes.

Cheers!

Hey guys,

I discovered this store while I was in London and even though I can't go to the physical store anymore, I still shop there online.
I would definitely, DEFINITELY recommend checking it out. It has a sizing guide, so you can figure out your exact size and then you can order online. If it doesn't fit exactly, you can send it back. It's a big of a pain BUT they are the ONLY bras I have ever had that fit me.
PLUS, they have bathingsuits, tank tops and halters and strapless tops with built in REAL BRAS, as well as button up shirts that would gap, suit jackets, casual jackets... everything!
It is my favourite store in the whole world!
Check it out: Bravissimo .
It is AWESOME!

Hiya,

Yep, the weight loss thing is proving a real issue for me. I have not been able to consistently get ONE POUND less than I was at my consultation in November.
But like Kimm said, if you boobs are mostly fat tissue than they can grow back.. and that seems like a pretty bad idea. My breasts are definitely still big when I am skinny, but they have obviously gotten quite a lot bigger since I put on 35 lbs so I need to get some of that off... If I don't, and I get called in for surgery I'll have to say No.
I have also heard that if you get it done and THEN lose the weight, your breasts get all saggy and stuff. A girl I used to work with had it done and then lost about 20 lbs, and her nipples are way up high on her chest now and her boobs kind hang beneath them... its not pretty!

The underwire one that I posted, definitely yes. The one that you posted, definitely not. But because of all my weight gain, loss, and gain again, let's just say that my boobs are NOT perky, so if you aren't too saggy, it might work for ya.

Really, Stephie's suggestion was the best: try stuff like that on, especially if you've never worn a strapless. Move around, bend over, jump and down, wiggle like hell. Hehe.

Honestly, I can't wear ANY strapless bra - as soon as I move, it's down around my waist. LOL! That's why I like the convertible ones - I can use clear straps, which is the next best thing.

I have a horrible time shopping for bras since it is hard to find anything that fits me (depending on the bra I am an F or a G) so I have to go Chicago or Minneapolis or mail order them. So this will be absolutely wonderful for me to be able to shop from especially since I need a new swimsuit. Might even be able to get a bikini!

Thank you so much for the link! I am off to shop. Hope the credit card is ready!

Heh, it definitely took me at least a year before I got up enough courage to try on a DD. And then they were VS and sucked... and now they don't even have DD in the store anymore! And the one I had for years was discontinued!! It took another few months after that of small bra adventures, most of which ended with a handful of underwear instead... But the upgrade to a fitting bra is definitely worth it. I don't fall out anymore and can actually stop adjusting all the time! Good old Vanity Fair (sounds like a cheesy soap though)...

So glad you guys like the site! Not only do I think it is GREAT to find a bra (or button up shirt, oh my gosh!) that fits, but I also really like the idea of supporting (hee hee) a store that really takes into consideration what we big-boobed women are after!

The one thing I would say before getting out the credit card and ordering one of everything, is to be really thorough with your "sizing".
When I first went into the store in Covent Garden, I said to the helper (who are amazing there, btw!), "I am a 38D" (at the time I was about 127lbs, 5'4 with big boobs) and the girl just laughed and said, "No, you aren't."
She measured me around and I was actually a 32/34. With the size around being a lot more tight, I was much more "secure" in my bras. With my La Senza bras, they were so loose that my boobs were residing around my tummy area. With the bravissimo bras, it picked them right up! I couldn't believe how long my torso was! It was like there was a whole section of my body that I had never seen before!

When this happens, though, your cup size goes right up. So I went from being a 38D, to a 32F. I was pretty shocked but when I was wearing the right bra, my breasts looked smaller, more perky and I got less aches and pains in my back. Plus, they will be less likely to sag later in life, woo!

So if you think you are a 36 or 38, measure yourself so the tape is right secure against your skin, right under your "ladies" and go by that. Then I'll bet your cup size is bigger too, but the bras will fit like a dream if you get the right one and you may just be shocked like I was!

For swimsuits, I also have a black one of the strappy ones.. I'll see if I can find a picture of me in it.. the size with those ones, like this one the size isn't QUITE as important because they are ties around your neck and your back so you can tie it as tight as you want, just make sure the little triangles are big enough to hold your girls!

Anyway, happy shopping! Let me know if you guys pick anything out, I am gonna order a new bra soon 'cause since I haven't been in the UK for a while, my good white bra is getting a bit grey!

I know these are kind of a pain, but depending on what you want to wear it with it might work...
You know those bras with detachable straps? I got one in the UK that had 3 sets of straps and one set was clear. I was wearing it with a dress with thin straps with little diamonte thingies on it, so you couldn't see the clear straps at all... I guess if you are wearing something completely strapless, it wouldn't be any good but it's worth a shot for stuff with thin straps or whatever.

I have never tried the strapless bras at Bravissimo, so I'm not sure... but I have regular bras, swimsuits and a sports bra (which is AMAZING) and I love all them, so I would put money on the strapless ones being pretty good.. IF they fit right, of course!
