Eric completely on his own, planned a weekend for just the 2 of us at the Peaks of Otter in Va. Anyone anywhere NEAR this area, I can't recommend it enough. 2 nights and all our food and we came in at under 250$. It is a quaint place with no telephones or TVs or even clocks in the rooms, they are basically helping you truly "get away from it all", but all the amenities are there and a really nice restaurant/lodge for everything you need. ANYWAY... it was heavenly...

Here was the view from our balcony in one direction

And in the other direction you see Sharp Top, which was covered in haze the first day so you can't see the peak there

Someone took our picture for us

Here's the lodge from across the lake

And here's the rooms from across the lake

There she is - SHARP TOP! We're headed UP....

Here's the lodge from the TOP

Here's Eric enjoying the view

And I climbed up another rock to take it all in (can you say, "aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.......")

It was just absolutely wonderful and best of all this is the first time I've hiked without major pain in 4 years, and the first time I"ve been able to at ALL in over a year, and for me, I love the mountains and to not hike is well, ... let's just say it was HARD to take! I'm so thankful to be able to enjoy it again.

We've decided to make this an annual event, in April before the rates go up and it gets crowded. The kids are out of the woods as far as being "scary sick" like they were last week, but were still getting over their illnesses and so some cuddling and spoiling from the grandparents was welcome.

I grew up in a family that loved the mountains. My folks actually moved to the area we used to vacation in when I was a kid for that reason! DH and I lived in N. GA for a brief time and enjoyed the mountain vistas, but I've always been partial to North Carolina! There is just nothing like it!

I'm thrilled that you were able to hike pain-free, and so thankful that you are blessed with such a sweet hubby. I got to enjoy some pretty scenery in TN last week too!

There are no TV's in the rooms, there is no pool, and nothing nearby - I mean nothing, a small town down the mountain but even there, not much of anything. Which WE enjoyed! And our kdis would enjoy it for a day or two, we plan to take them, but any longer than that and they'd be boooooooored.
