I was just signing my name on the eating board to a post I wrote, and I started to write, yes I've tried hypnosis becasue I knew someone would tell me to try it (I've done the 100 days twice now). But then I kept listing everything I'd tried over the years for IBS I can't believe how much there is. Now I'm thinking how much money I'd have saved if I hadn't had IBS and bought all this stuff! A few of these things I still do/use others were one shot trials. no order, just free association...
i've tried:
hypnosis,
heather's diet,
yoga,
psychotherapy,
juicing,
acupuncture,
accacia,
metamucil,
citrucel,
benefiber,
peppermint caps
altoids,
hyosciamine,
bentyl,
fennel,
ginger,
probiotics,
journaling,
pepto,
mylanta,
gas-x,
beano,
xanax,
dgl licorice,
gluten free,
wheat free 3 years,
dairy free 15 years,
no raw food 10 years,
veganism 1 year,
"macdougal diet" which was fat-free veganism that same year,
vegetarianism 8 years but no more,
aloe juice,
meditation,
colostrum,
chinese herbs,
ginseng,
buspar,
zoloft,
desepramine,
digestive advantage,
pot,
jogging,
tai chi,
feldenkrais method,
Alexander technique
Rosen method
biofeedback
and burning moxa in my navel! (chinese medicine technique you burn this fibrous stuff and it warms you up, it doesn't burn the skin)
and probably a few more that I'm not remembering!!!
Have I missed any major "cures"???

Good GRIEF! This is pretty scary, especially considering I've tried so many of them myself (well, except of course for that moxa naval thing -- Yikes!).....

Just think, when we're dead and in our graves, they'll come up with a cure. Don'tcha feel better now?

So what, if any of them have helped, Dan? Which ones are you still using? I'll list mine later...but I'm sort of embarrassed! It's like 2 pages long...and I'm not sure if I even remembered everything.

You know, the only thing that's ever worked for me was an anti-depressant. It really helped on the nerves and while it didn't 'cure' me, It made me able to go to school and do day-to-day things. I combine it with a loose variation of Heather's diet, and I'm good to go.

acupuncture along with colostrum, chinese herbs and no raw food or frozen food worked REALLY well for about 3.5 years. Actually I thought I was cured. THen about 5 years ago it stopped working.
Right now I take zoloft and buspar and have xanax for emergencies (panic attacks which coincide with bad ibs attacks). They seem to help most of the d, but none of the cramping. REcently I've tried probiotics they seem to help with d as well but also no help it seems for cramping every day and bad attacks once a week or more... The hypnosis tapes helped me learn to head off lesser attacks, but once its built up a bit and the panic has kicked in, it feels too late to turn back. I've recently gone back to acupuncture and psychotherapy (with the same person) to give it another go. - Dan

Nah! I don't think even when we are dead they will find a cure!!! However, my theory, if just ONE thing works for one symptom then we should be happy. For instance cutting out ice cream/dairy products completely freed me of BAD BAD attacks. If one med helps with the D but not the cramping then we just kinda have to accept it since there is no cure. I take one day at a time and cherish the week or 2 weeks in a month that I don't have any attacks. Just trying to be uplifting here! Hope it works!!

Peppermint tea, Heathers diet, going dairy free, red meat free (which is very hard, my husband and I are beef producers). Taking Lexapro this last year and a half has helped tremendously, and....drum rollllllllll.

My son got a divorce and the evil Xdaughter in law moved away and my health changed dramatically. I tell you the stress that woman caused in my life was threatening. Believe it!!! It is true!!

I can now eat small amounts of fresh fruit and veggies. I snuck a small bowl of Blue Bell Homemade Vanilla Ice cream last night, I haven't been in pain from it. My life is easier to live, because I am not shuffling back and forth from D-C anylonger.

I hope something good helps all of you soon!!!

I've tried:
Fibercon- 12yrs Good to go, one day stopped working!
Benefiber -gas so bad I was actually floating around
Citricell powder -good, maybe a little too good, went from C to D.
Zantac - for nasea 2 yrs
Colon cleanse - almost 2 yrs, & found out not a good idea for us IBSers
Citrecell caps W/Heather's diet- & No dairy-BINGO!! we have a winner!!

Bevvy, that was funny!!LOL Thanx
Even if they find a cure after were dead it won't be so bad, cuz we'll no longer have IBS or anything eles!! Too bad we have to be dead, hu??
