As you know, my fibro doc appointment went really well, and my doc gave me 3 injectables that I'm supposed to give myself weekly: AMP, Glutathione, and B12. OK, my first shot didn't go so well!
I got about 1cc of the 5 cc shot in my thigh and then I couldn't push the plunger anymore. I shifted my weight and I guess I moved the muscle and the whole needle tilted to the side with the movement of my muscle! This was enough to start me blacking out, so I yanked out the needle, grabbed a cotton ball and assumed a prone position on the couch. This is where my BF found me later, needle dripping on the floor next to me.
He was *not thrilled* and yelled at me that he was going to call 911 if I didn't start looking better. All in all, nelly's science experiment is over, so now is the time to call in the professionals.
So tomorrow I'm off to the clinic to see if there's a spare RN with steady hands who can give me some help. Which is what I should have done anyway, except now I can say I truely tried it myself first.

EEEEK, definitely get some help with this. Like I said before, I'm really surprised they didn't have the nurse show you how to do them before you left. You can also try them in your glut if that works better than your thigh. That's where my painful (nurse-mediated) attempt was.

LOL! That's a good idea. I didn't have any problem inserting the needle. There was no pain whatsoever until I hit the plunger. Then it was like FIRE THERE'S A FIRE IN MY LEG.

Aw, thanks for the gentle hugs. I needed that. BF is terrified of the sight of needles (he can't even watch scenes in movies or on TV). I guess the nurse dodn't help me originally on Tuesday because I'd received all the meds in my IV, so no additional shots were administered.
If the clinic can't help me then I suppose I can ask the Planned Parenthood people next week when I get my depo shot. I'm always their weirdest patient, so it shouldn't be too far outside the realm of weird favors to ask them.

if they didn't tell you, the glutathione stings a little. That's what they told me after the fact when I was crying from the pain.

AHA! Those bastards! Isn't it amazing the things they forget?
It's a shame because I really want the viatmin B12. I called the free clinic this morning but they need me to come in during office hours on Tuesday-Thursday to detirmine eligability before they even see me. Then after a lengthy phone mail message with lots of number pushing, I got to a voice mailbox that was *full.* So frustrating.

and not the other stuff. That's the option they gave me when the injection hurt me so much, since it's less volume and doesn't have the stinging stuff in it.

I was thinking that too, especially since it's only 1cc. It's what I really was interested in anyway, and from what I understand, it doesn't have to be done intramuscularly. Some people get them in the fatty layer around the gut. I'd be up to doing it that way, but want an RN's opinion first.

Oh sweetie!!! I'm sorry, I just responded to your other post and asked if your boyfriend could inject you but I can see now thats not an option!!!! I know when they first started me on injections and I did my first shot of Repronex, I had a terrible allergic reaction to it and my tummy turned red and got really hot and swollen, it hurt so bad!!! It made me a little gun shy to poke myself the next day even after they changed the meds!
If the medication itself it stinging and they can't switch it to something else for you, try icing the area first. Get it good and numb and push the plunger slowly and after you have injected it, rub the area a little to try and break up the solution some. You may want to do it laying in bed, that way if you get woozy again, you're already laying down!

Good idea! Thanks!
I'm almost thinking about trying to do it again. The effects of the last one are wearing off, I can feel it!!

I sure hope you're OK, & that you learn what you need to. But at least you gave it a 'shot'!! Sorry, that was bad.
